Are there any yoga moves that you should avoid during the TWW?

I asked my yoga teacher but she didn't know. Google only seems to comment on yoga after the first 12 weeks.

I have no idea! I thought u should be pretty ok with yoga and TTC. I have decided not to change my fitness habits while TTC, I'm going to do what I always do until my body gives me signals I should slow down.

I did yoga the entire frist month we were TTC but didnt go as hard during the TWW. The second month (when we got our BFP) I didn't during the TWW.

I was also confused about the advice given. I have given up durithe first 12w, I hope to go back after that.

Did you stop because you felt tired/sick or because of mc worries? I've read on somw websites that the jumps can cause the egg to dislodge after implantation (which I find very hard to believe) and that some binds are bad because they squash your organs... but then other poses are described as being great for fertility.

I'm not sure what to do - I haven't found any info that covers the topic properly. I've had 2 early losses and don't want to do anything that's harmful during the TWW, but I don't want to avoid yoga unless I must because I think it's great exercise & helps reduce my stress. Any advice on what to do?

Im very suprised your yoga instructor doesnt know....they really should! as every position has particular benefits and effects on parts of the body. For example you shouldnt do inverted poses when on your AF (where you are upside down) I asked my yoga instructor and she said that 1 or 2 positions may not be suitable if i was possibly in the early stages of pg (i was in my tww but just told her i was possibly pg) but she would help me during the class ..but i ended up not going back to that class as i moved house (sorry thats not much help to us!).

There is yoga out there aimed at supporting fertility which Im going to try very soon. Ive been having the same issues with exercise and not knowing what I should do and how much. Ive heard so many conflicting views....like bikram yoga will raise the body temp too much which isnt good for concieving.

Hi everyone! I'm not a doctor, but I'm another one who has had losses, but I also don't want to change my entire life in the TWW because, for me, that just makes me more obsessed and stressed out. So I do fertility yoga from CD 1- Ovulation and then pregnancy yoga from O to AF or BFP.gif original.gif If I'm doing yoga at the gym, I've just told my instructor my situation and she always gives an alternative for pregnant ladies and I do those in the TWW.

I hope that helps some people anyway.

Happy yoga-ing ladies!

Does your yoga teacher know what moves pregnant women should avoid? I'd stick to stuff that's safe during pregnancy (not a doctor either, but this makes sense to me - given early losses you might want to discuss with your doctor), especially stuff that's safe first trimester. There should be more info on this than 2ww. I'm just going to stick to maternity yoga (I use dvd's not classes though) while TTC. Most info seems to say if you've been doing the exercise for a while and it doesn't raise temps too much you should be ok and you level of intensity that you should still be able to talk during it, so not short of breath.
There are some specific fertilty yoga dvds you can get online or maybe your teacher knows about fertility yoga?

Hi Sunshiney,
I am a qualified Yoga Therapist and Instructor. As far as I have ever been taught, or understand, Yoga during the 2ww should be completely fine.
I would however avoid Bikram yoga (it raises the body temperature too high), unless you practice yoga regularly, then I would also recommend trying to avoid doing extreme twists (can affect the ability to implant) and extreme prone positions (lying on your stomach asanas). If you regularly do yoga, then you should be fine (but still avoid bikram if you can.)

Hope that helps!

Feel free to PM me if you want more details!!

In Iyengar yoga our teachers are happy for you to practise until 7 weeks then stop until after 12 weeks. It is partly because if MC is to happen there is a fair chance that this may be the time it does and also to ensure that should you suffer a loss there are no negative connotations attached to your yoga practise.

Beyond 12 weeks the asanas that you do are going to be impacted by what level of practise you are at. I have been able to continue with slight modifications to some poses.
