Another vote for getting a cold. My son's breath is a bit wiffy before he gets sick.

My 17 month old has bad breath too. She has chronic constipation and intermittent reflux so they are the most likely causes for her but I was just talking to her GP about it this week and he said it is very common.

I have read somewhere (cannot recall where) that a pea sized amount of baby toothpaste from 18mths. My son will just suck the toothbrush, so I brush his teeth every night.

My DS had the same thing so I asked the ENT dr when we had a check up after grommets - he said it was because he had a low grade throat infection. He was fine after a course of antibiotics but I did have to throw out and replace dummies as well.

I asked DD's dentist about it (specialist pediatric dentist) who said dental hygiene doesn't really affect bad breath - the main cause is digestive issues (she has a slight lactose intolerance). You could try some lactose free milk or some probiotics to improve the health of the stomach

For us our DS's dog-bum-cheese-breath (yes, by the time he was 2.5yo it really was THAT bad) was caused by massive adenoids and rotten tonsils.

No ENT-ish issues? Does he snore?

both of my kids got bad breath when teething...? As soon as the teeth came through or calmed down they went back to normal.

Same with my LO. Might be teeth?
