We've just moved to country VIC (Yarrawonga) and have enrolled DD1 in a catholic primary school in Yarrawonga. At the moment we are renting but would like to buy some land & build sometime this year. We've got our eye on some land that's just across the border in Mulwala (NSW). Does anyone know if our DD1 could still stay at the same school? DH said because it's a catholic school she should be able to.

A quick call to the school should give you an answer, but I expect so. Since it is near the border they may have had other students in this situation. The private school that I went to had kids from other states attending (as boarders). Schools receive some funding from the government for each child that attends and this is made up of some Federal and some State funding as far as I recall. I don't think the amount contributed by each state would be very much different, so I wouldn't think it would matter, even if it were a State school, as long as that school wasn't full.

I'd call the school to find out, but I'd say yes.

I lived in Wodonga as a kid and went to high school in Albury. Although it was quite a few years ago now, there was never an issue that I lived in another state. At the time though, all the kids who lived in NSW had free bus travel, but those of us from VIC had to pay for it.

Also caused a fair bit of confusion for the couple of weeks that NSW was still on daylight savings and VIC wasn't!

Growing up I had a friend who lived in Bendoc Vic and went to school in Bombala NSW..she had a free bus ride..so i imagine it would be fine

Asked the school and they said they've got heaps of students from "the other side" and there is even a bus. Yay.

That's probably because there was a closer equivalent school that you could've gone to and then the bus would've been free (as long as you lived the required distance from the school - it's much closer in NSW and in Vic).

I live out of Mulwala and you can have your child at SHPS in either state. From Mulwala Woods Bus Lines collects the children. You will need to phone them when and if you build in Mul to see where they would collect you from.



In Yarra its Thompsons (?spelling) all the depo's for the buses are in Acarcia Street (opp the sheep yards near Elders).


All bus travel around here is free - just need to sign the forms for the bus operators to enable them to be payed.


Also your kindergarten - preschool (where are you at this year) could also help you with this as other mums will be dealing with or dealt with the local buses.

You'll need to check this because it does go on distance from the school.

And it's the bus conveyance that you get that actually pays the bus fees (approx $400 a year). If you chose to drive there is also a car conveyance that you can get (think it's the same amount).
