I was diagnosed with Psoriasis today and whilst I understand it's a life long autoimmune disease and i know the basics such as thickening of skin, scaly appearance, I don't know much else.
My diagnosis comes after a biopsy of an area of skin on my leg, I also have a similar patch on my elbow.
The doctor said at this stage treatment isn't required, however if it spreads or gets worse then they can try some different treatment options and that in the meantime, to just use moisturizer on my skin.
I don't know anyone with the disease to ask, so I thought maybe there is someone here that can give me advise on what to do or not to do.
Also what lotion/potion have you found to work the best as a moisturizer? I have sensitive skin, so I guess I need to take that into account as well.
My apologies if I am in the wrong area, i'm not sure if I belong in here.
TIA

My partner has pretty bad case of it....for a daily all over moistureriser she uses a sorbelone from the supermarket. Also has it on her scalp and gets a special cream made up at the chemist. She uses Advantan on prescription for all other spots.

QUOTE (millej13 @ 24/04/2012, 09:30 PM) I get psoriasis on my scalp, which is just delightful (sarcasm)!!! I'm sorry that you have to deal with it as well, it really is a cruel skin condition to have. I have noticed the patch on my leg has gotten bigger since I had the biopsy done last week, I also noticed a smaller spot on my upper arm which looks like my leg did when I first noticed it. I have some sorbolene (sp) cream that I can use until I can either get to the chemist or somewhere that sells moo-goo. There are not very many places that sell moo-goo around where I live.

My husband suffers from it. He's tried all sorts of things and it seems to be a seasonal thing, getting worse in summer usually. Its not as bad as it used to be, he would get huge patches on his legs. We had prescribed creams for that. Now it's not as bad as it used to be and he uses either moogoo or 'carolines cream' to help with the itch. Goats milk soap can also help relieve the itchiness. Hope this helps

I have psoriasis and urticaria ( which I think is worse though thankfully intermittent) and TOTALLY agree with pp re moo goo, it is the only non steroid cream that has offered me relief and I have been suffering over 10 years.

Hello
I'm suffer from psoriasis, and even worse I suffer from psoriatic arthritis.
When I get bad patches, I have to use a prescription cream called Diprosone and it's awesome. It clears it up well, but is oily and can be messy depending on how large the patch of bad skin is (i.e. I wouldn't use it every day, just at night time with gauze over top to soak it).
For every day, I use either: - Caroline's Cream (non prescription, a 'natural' cream specifically designed for psoriasis or eczema sufferers) - QV Intensive Body Moisturiser / Cream - Cetaphil Moisturising Cream for Dry, Sensitive Skin (very good for face - I get psoriasis on my eyelids and it's sensitive enough to use there!)
It's important not to use fragrant lotions, etc. I also use soap-free body wash and natural shampoo's. Also, ginger based body washes/lotions are soothing.
My Dad has suffered with Psoriasis/Psoriatic Arthritis for a long time and I always said it's the last thing I wanted to get... and it really is a horrid thing to deal with, especially flare ups.
Wishing you well, and hope you can manage to keep it under control.
