ok i feel annoyed, tell me if i have a right to be.

DP got some scratch it tickets for his birthday, he "won" $18 on a $10 crossword scratch it ticket. HE gave it to me on Friday and said go and get the money for this. He won via the extra word panel, the word was piece, i checked it, and definitely the letters were all there, they weren't not scratched off properly or anything. The "self check" panel confirmed the ticket had won, but not how much.

I went to get it, and the shop attendant went to the machine, the shop attendant ripped up the ticket and then gave me $10. I said, that's not right, the ticket won $18. She fished it out of the bin and got the woman that was in charge (not the shop owners) as she wasn't sure how they worked.

I pointed out the letters which spelled out the word, they were all clearly there no doubts, and the prize panel, said eighteen dollars. She said, come back tomorrow and I will see if the machine balances out as I am sure that the validator said $10. I kept the ticket.

I went back the next day and she said you were right and gave me the $8.

Today 2 days after that, i went it to grab the paper & a coffee and the shop owner, bailed me up for 20 minutes, and start going on about how we can only pay what the validator says even if the ticket says otherwise, and we have to pay for any differences out of our own pocket, it doesn't matter because it's only $8 and you are a good customer and Mrs so and so thought the same thing, that she only won $6 and we went through the list of pay outs and there is nothing that says $18 on there then again, we have to pay for any differences out of our own pocket and so on and so forth but you are a good customer so it doesn't matter. I interjected with you've got the ticket you can see for yourself but she was not having any of it. All of this was said in front of other customers. Basically accusing me of being a liar and ripping her off. I am not a liar, and I am the sort of person that will take an extra 5c in change back.

I put my paper back down and coffee back in the fridge, and walked out of there and went across the road to the service station and bought them there.

WDYT? I know it's insignificant in the grand scheme of things..It's not the $8 that I am annoyed about, i wasn't annoyed about it on the weekend, people make mistakes after all, there was no way I was wrong with what the ticket actually won, it's the way the shop owner spoke to me today that peeved me. She has done something similar before, my DP bought a packet of smokes a year or so ago, paid for that and a bottle of milk and left the smokes on the counter, he got home which is literally around the corner, realised he had forgotten them, went back straight away, she did not want to give them to him and made the biggest deal out of it in front of other customers. Hubby is pretty forthright and she eventually handed them over.

n.b. this is the same business that takes deficiencies in the till out of the wages of their employees.

ETA: if when i had have gone back initially they had have said, no everything balances out, it was $10, i would probably thought, maybe i was wrong after all, and left it at that

If you don't feel comfortable with how you are spoken to there, then I just would not frequent that store.

Yes I'd be peeved.

She sounds like a right b**ch actually.

I think you were very nice to put your stuff back before you walked out. I would have dumped it on a shelf next to her and walked out.

Yes I would be annoyed. If there are problems with there system then that is between then and the lottery office. I would have cut them short after 5.

I wouldn't rush to go back there.

I would be reporting it to the Lotteries people. There was a scam where some agents were doing this sort of thing or telling people they had won nothing on the lotto, and then claiming the money themselves.

You were too trusting, I wouldn't have walked out of there without the $18 the first time! I would have had them call the lotteries office to get it sorted on the spot. But given you did, and now she is giving you an earful because of it and calling you a liar there is no way I'd be going back there. In fact I'd probably be putting in a written complaint to the lotteries office given this involved one of their products and she is claiming that the lotteries validator was wrong and therefore you aren't entitled to the prize printed on the ticket wacko.gif

I thought maybe i am making a big deal out of nothing, I felt a bit silly posting about something so small biggrin.gif I won't be going back there ever, the petrol station across the road will be getting a lot more business from us from now on. (turns out they are 45 cents cheaper on the coffee too!)

I would absolutely be annoyed. What appalling service, I'm glad to hear you won't be shopping there anymore. It sounds like you were a frequent customer too, they've shot themselves in the foot there!

or Fembo maybe...
I wouldn't be going back there. Ridiculous behavior - even if it HAD been true it would be ridiculous behaviour to a regular customer - let alone when they are clearly in the wrong!
