I'm supposed to be 8 weeks pregnant but over the weekend I started spotting, first pale pink, then brown, then bright red yesterday - also cramping, back pain - assumed the worst.

Managed to get into ultrasound yesterday and was told fetus that should be 8 weeks is only measuring 6, based on LMP (I'd had dating scan 3 weeks before). He wasn't positive at all but at the end he found a heartbeat - 106 bpm. I was devastated, left the centre believing we would miscarry in the next few days + sad that I knew it was still alive right now.

My Dr then called - centre had faxed resuts - when I went to see him late yesterday he said the report said there qas probably nothing to worry about, that it looked healthy - I explained it should be 8 weeks not 6 weeks and he said "It's so small right now, it probably wasn't measured properly." - WHAT?!?!

I'm so confused, how can two medical professionals have such differing views? Am I right to hope like he says or should I listen to the sonographer who was not positive at all because of first scan. Could the first dating scan 3 weeks ago be wrong, was I actually only 3 weeks not 5?

The bleeding is still light but continuing, the cramps are ever present.

Re LMP, it was my first period after having my son 4 months earlier (he's IVF, we were told we couldn't get pregnant naturally, but we did).

Has anyone else ever heard of such a situation ending well? I know I have to wait it out but I wish I had medical advice I could trust sad.gif

I'm so sorry you're going through this, the not knowing what's going to happen is torture sad.gif

My story is very similar to yours, but the outcome was not great, so I'll leave that for now.
In my very non-professional opinion, I would tend to agree with the sonographer, at 3 weeks you would not have seen anything on an u/s, so the date is probably correct that you should be 8 weeks. But your Dr still has faith, so all is not lost! Was the doctor you spoke to a GP or an OB. I only ask as I find my GP is useless in terms of fertility issues.
As long as there's still a heartbeat there's still hope.
Praying it's good news for you in the next few weeks, all the best.

Thanks Silver, I'm half expecting the worst because I want to prepare myself, Dr is my GP who's reaction I thought was totally bizarre. He followed it up with, I see this all the time, try not to worry.

Anyway, for me, it's better to know so thankyou for sharing your experience - I know every case is different but I need to be realistic - then I can be pleasantly surprised if things do work out original.gif

HCG test this afternoon...

It's happening now, there are tears but Silver I wanted to thankyou, I wouldn't be coping like I am right now if I hadn't received your note earlier. When I went to bed last night I believed the baby might be alright because of what my Dr said, when really there was very little hope. But I will be OK. Thankyou EB ladies xx

this is exactly what happened to me 2 months ago, i was 10 weeks, the scan said i was 6 so my doctor said i must only be 6 and not to worry, even though i had found out i was preg 7 weeks ago - apparently i must be the one who was wrong

Sorry to see your post OP - my sonographer kept suggesting I had my dates wrong although the midwife consultant kept saying things weren't progressing, so there were some variations in the advice/information I received and I was sure of my dates (I had only been trying to fall pregnant for one month - how wrong could my dates be!)

Thoughts are with you in this sad time. There are plenty of people here to be in contact with if you need us.

Peanutter I am sorry. I have had similar experience with sonographer telling me baby was 2 weeks behind and GP telling me not to worry maybe I got the dates wrong (I did IVF so the dates were undisputable). Go back a week later and suddenly there is a healthy heartbeat, but baby is still measuring 1 week behind. Sonographer now says maybe my dates are wrong and it will now be fine (I am like "IVF people, the dates are correct). 2 weeks later it happened sad.gif

It is really awful - the emotional side of things. Especially because you guys must have been over the moon that you fell pregnant naturally.

Thinking of you sad.gif
