At DD's request she will be getting a Dora cake. I think I will be doing the Rainbow Cake from another thread on EB, with a white chocolate mud cake/colourings in the cake mix.

I have a cake topper (keeping it simple here) and was thinking about doing just plain fondant icing ...

Will a cake topper 'stick' to fondant or do I need to put a softer icing under the topper?

What can I put around the edge of the cake to make that look pretty too? Would just coloured fondant be enough?

will the kids like fondant? mine dont eat it. if it were i, i would use butter cream. could you put 100s & 1000s around the cake topper to the egde of the cake?

The cake topper will stick to the fondant if you brush on some sugar syrp or a small amount of water onto the fondant. (can brush on with a pastry brush.

For around the edge cake you could put some hundreds and thousands, or you can also get some from woollies that are big bundreds ond thousands, that are volourful and filled with chocolate. anything really.

I'd do it covered with white buttercream, sides covered with smarties (or similar), top covered in hundreds and thousands and the big chocolate hundreds and thousands, with the cake topper in the middle. Very colourful, and would suit the rainbow inside!

I'm with the PP regarding the kids actually liking the fondant. I think buttercream is a better way to go, most kids seem to just eat the icing and leave the cake. Unless your cunning plan is to have them a little less sugar-spazzed.

I saw little star shaped sprinkles the other day, given Dora's star catching thing those might be a good addition somewhere on the cake.

I hope you ladies are lurking - I am just wondering how far in advance can I put the topper on - will it 'bleed'?
Could I do it the night before for a 2pm party?
