Hi all,

In the next couple of weeks I want to start shopping for baby bedroom furniture and everything else that is needed for the baby. As I know it will be quite overwhelming but what shop did you find that you got the best deal at?

Many thanks

Can't believe my baby girl is 1!
Shop around and know your prices. Don't sucked in to the baby shops. We brought a baby bath from a baby shop when we were having DD1. The exact same thing was $40 cheaper at Target!

Baby shops can be quite expensive so shop around. I found a lot of things much cheaper at target or I bought second hand.

I like Mothercare (baby shop), they do some great specials and every week there is usually a managers special too which is generally an awesome price (last week it was on a Infa car seat).

I live in WA so I mIght not be relevant but I don't buy anything from baby shops because they are to expensive. Target and Big W usually have sales on baby stuff from time to time. Also I do a bit of online shopping also usually I'll go to a baby shop to check out what I want then shop around to get the best price. I personally have a small budget as I'm having twins and it was a surprise so I'm hiring 2 baby capsules and also looking at some second hand stuff also. Hope I helped at least a little bit ☺

So important to prioritse what is important to you... for me I spent a bit more on a cot and pram and got them from a baby shop but then I managed to find a great discount furniture place in Alexandria to match the cot with furniture such as a chest of drawers and bedside table....

There is also a lot of competition these days between the baby shops that they will price match and if you buy quite a few items from them they will offer you a 15% discount for a "baby package" for example...

So definitely worth shopping around.... online sites too are great!

And then target and big W are great for all the rest! I find these two stores the best quality too.... not a fan of Kmart any more....

Have fun shopping!

Depending on what you like...I am going secondhand this time as its definately the last and my OH and myself have a thing for restoring furniture so I'm happy to do up the wooden baby furniture. I may buy a pram new but even then I will probably buy online.

I preferred a baby store for the major purchases(I get a discount from mine original.gif ) as I believe in supporting local small business, especially those run by mothers. I don't like buying from giant retailers staffed by teenagers who've never had a baby and haven't experienced the day to day life of living with one.
Plus they earn enough of my money for other things, I like to spread the love around. I also don't like my money going overseas if I can keep it here.
I used a repainted old chest of drawers as a change table, with a new fitted change mat thing on top.

I bought most of my stuff second hand on Ebay and Gumtree. The only things I bought new were the car seat and bottles, breast pump etc (this last one was much cheaper online). I got good stuff and saved a fortune, reduced wastage too. For example, feeding chair $150 not $500, pram $150 not $700. You may just want to check that things like cots and prams meet current Australian standards.

If you're a member of a library, you can usually get Choice magazine access online to check their reviews of big-ticket baby items like prams.

Modern Cloth Nappies are mostly second-hand from ebay.

The baby shops can be good for looking at products, like prams, to figure out what you want - then you know what is a good brand and what is a good deal elsewhere.

I have been happy with clothes and smaller things (such as nappy bucket, facewashers) new from the chain stores (Target, Big W, Kmart).

It depends on what you're looking to purchase - I did a bulk buy from www.babyzonedirect.com.au (2 car seats, pram, cot etc etc) and because I did everything in one go I got a great deal - they are pretty good price wise, but with the discount for a larger purchase really good value.
