I would buy a video monitor if i was going to buy a new monitor again. With DS1 when we moved him out of our room at about 7 months he wasn't very happy. I knew that if he was standing up in his cot we didn't stand a chance of him going to sleep, if he was awake but lying down chances are he would go to sleep himself. Problem was I didn't have a video monitor to check so would disturb him either way. It would of been great to be able to watch his behaviour and learn his cues without disturbing him. Apart from that I have been perfectly happy with a good audio only monitor.
As for bouncer I have no idea |

I really like our video monitor. It's handy to see if DS is trying to self settle or is just lying there getting upset, or if he's managed to unwrap himself. DS makes quite a bit of noise between sleep cycles, and I would be disturbing him if I went in to see what he was doing.
However, there are plenty of days when I don't use it other than overnight, and just go by sound. It really is a luxury and we could manage without it. ETA: We have three hand-me-down bouncers, and they're all much of a muchness. I think that your baby either likes them or doesn't, and you won't really know until you try. If you could get second-hand, then you won't feel too bad if they hate it! This post has been edited by chocolatecrackle: 23/04/2012, 01:49 PM |

I have a movement monitor but wish I paid the extra and got the video one. It would be so handy! My friends love their video monitors.
I don't have a bouncer. I have a rocker that vibrates. If I had my time again I'd probably buy a swing instead. But in saying that, all you need is a cheap bouncer. I'm glad things are going well :-) |

We only have an audio monitor (handmedown) and it was fine. I only occasionally wish we had a video one - the standing up in cot thing is a good reason, but apart from that it's ok. TBH I think it's important to listen to their noises and different cries because that can tell you a lot about what is going on. That's not a reason to NOT get a video monitor, just my 2c

We only have an audio monitor, with the movement/breathing pads (sorry not sure of the name). To be honest it's fine, I would have the same one next time, I really don't see the need for a video monitor but that's just me.

I love having a video monitor. DD makes quite a lot of noise and often wakes briefly between sleep cycles, but I can have a quick look and know that she's okay.
She also sometimes wakes when she can't find her dummy and the noises she is making aren't desperate but it means that I can look and see that she just wants the dummy and go straight in and get it for her, rather than the 'wait and see if she goes back to sleep' approach I might have otherwise, which would mean that she would wake properly. We didn't buy a terribly expensive one, and it's been working great for almost a year now. |

I have a video monitor - bought it when DD moved to her own room - I adore it! I love being able to wake, glance up and see that she's fine - makes going back to sleep easier LOL. Also really handy to see if she's just making sleep noises or if she's awake.
Mine also has a remote switch for the night light - FABULOUS! |
