silly me sliced off the entire pad of my finger at midnight opening a can. blood everywhere. still bleeding now but no where near as bad. have to see a plastic surgeon this afternoon. finger is gruesome looking.

home from hospital to get some sleep then off to another hospital this afternoon, finger is bandaged, looks like something out of a cartoon.

took 4 needles to numb my finger, and a tetnus shot (which didn't hurt nearly as bad as i had been told)

but hey, at least i get out of doing the dishes for a while!!

I can relate somewhat as I sliced through an artery and severed a nerve and required surgery on my 'rude' finger...

Looking after a toddler and changing nappies was a challenge in the following weeks shall we say.

I agree ouch....DH was using a circular saw that is upside down on a bench, I think its called a bench saw, anyway he's feeding wood through it, I heard a scream, I ran out and he's bending over in pain and blood everywhere. I had to almost pry the rag off his hand....he reminded me of the kids when they hurt themselves. Anyway he too sliced the top of the pad, luckily it didn't need stitches, and wasn't as bad as it looked. He know uses the safety feeder when sawing he could have thought of that before.

nothing plastic surgeon can do to save it, it's dead. so he told me if i want to roba bank to only use that one finger lol

Poor you OP. Hope the pain subsides soon and that you get the use of your finger back soon. try to rest up if you can!

My youngest did this last year (his brother dared him to put it in one of those stick blenders ). I'm surprised they didn't get the surgeon to stitch it back on right away as you only have a short time to try and put it back, something like 6 hours maximum - they put Ben's back on within an hour of it happening, at first it looked like it took but sadly 3 days later it started dying. I would be upset at the hospital for not trying to save it at all.

It took well over 6 weeks for Ben's finger to finally heal over. He has been told he is lucky he is still so young that his padding should grow back and he may get his finger print back as well. So far the swirls are coming back, and its looking a little better - just a little deformed without that extra padding.

Good luck, but treat it carefully, you don't want to get an infection - we even kept Ben home from school until it had at least healed a layer of skin over it to save him from infection in the playground/getting it dirty and wet.

As for pain, within 48 hours Ben was fine pain wise - only time it hurt was dressing changes every 3 days and then once done no pain.
