I've got a 9 week old DS who farts like a trooper! Loads of farts. And they smell! He's Breastfed but sounds a lot like your bub- gets all worked up about doing a poo, only catnaps during the day, needs walking around the house on my shoulder. I am thinking its all just par for the course around this age.

I completely forgot my son was like this until I read your post. Ah, how quickly we forget! biggrin.gif
He was a real stinker, popped off all the time and he had a lot of trouble doing poo's even though he was exclusively breastfed! He would even throw himself around whilst trying to do it.
I asked the GP and he said it was normal as the bowel is still developing and the child is still learning to co-ordinate their muscles. He also said it was something they grow out of. I had my suspicions but the paediatrician backed it up and surely enough he grew out of it.
I wish I could remember the age he grew out of it. Either way I would ask whoever you can, just in case.

Can't believe my baby girl is 1!
DD3 had terrible wind. Infants friend and Ifacol helped. You can use both together. She has Ifacol at every feed for months (GP/MCHN recommendation). I was still burping her at 12 months!

We also found we needed to burp DD really well or she would get terrible wind/gas. The best way that worked for her was gentling bouncing her up and down on my leg. This would make the bubbles of wind rise up to the top of her tummy and it was much easier to get the wind up. She was a hard baby to burp! Cycling the legs like he is riding a bike helps with wind too.

What kind of formula is he on? I do feel for you.. glad those days are over!

Thanks for your advice. I give Infacol before each feed but are going to start giving gripe water after. Only problem is he is normally asleep before he finishes his bottle. I would prefer not to put in the bottle as he doesn't always drink the whole thing.

He is on Karicare Anti Reflux formula. He did do a greenish poo today so am still thinking we could be looking at an intolerance but will see what our pead says at our next appt.

My reflux baby was similar at that age in many respects. She is breastfed and used to be very farty and have a lot if pain associated with that. She got noticeably better when I stopped eating dairy food, and every time I try and have dairy to see what happens, sure enough the wind and screaming starts up again.

So from my experience, I'd say it's worth exploring the idea of some kind of intolerance, and perhaps trialling other formula. You just don't know until you try.
