I'm sure this has been asked a million times but a search has given me sort of unclear results and I'm just overwhelmed with choice and ignorance. I don't want to buy something I'll regret. I'll be looking for second hand. Any advice much appreciated
Can anyone recommend a good baby swing? Or warn me against a crappy one? Or against them at all? Any features I should look for? And has anyone had any success with them with a baby with reflux who sleeps very, very little during the day? Also can anyone recommend me a baby sling? I have a hand-me-down baby-bjorn-type one but there's something about it I don't like and my baby seems uncomfortable and the whole experiment usually lasts about 10 minutes before he's fed up. But I really think a sling would be great for us both if we get the right one. I'm considering one of those ones that look like a big bag that the baby can lie in, if that makes sense. Yes, no, maybe? Thanks! |

The Bubba Moe sling was a godsend for my cranky baby. He would go to sleep in in where nothing else would ever make him go to sleep. It is called a ring sling (the over the shoulder bag type).
I found it hard on the shoulder when he got bigger, but DP would put him in it for hours at a time - he just dozed and was happy. We used it for a year or more, til he got too big - that was a terrible day. My girls both loved the fisher price ocean wonders swing. But they were easy babies. My son wouid not sit in it at all. But yours might like it - it is hard to tell. |

I am really glad I bought the Close Baby Carrier. I wore it with bub from birth until 14mths (only stopped because I'm pregnant now). It was very easy and very comfortable for me and for her - it's not like the big bags where all the weight is on one shoulder, it's like a soft piece of material you slip over your head and then pull to tighten, so the weight is evenly distributed.
I didn't get a swing though. |

I used a hug-a-bug and a moby wrap (they're pretty much exactly the same) and they were absolutely fantastic! I couldn't have survived DD's first 12 weeks without them and I pretty much wore her in one from the minute we got up in the morning until I had a shower at night (she was a bit intense and would just cry uncontrollably if put down). They were comfortable for both her and me (she used to go to sleep nearly straight-away and she slept well in them) and easy to tie as well. Hug-a-bub's can be a bit expensive but I got mine 2nd hand off ebay for a good price. The moby's are quite a bit cheaper but still just as good if not better as the fabric is a bit less stretchy.

If your bub has reflux I'd avoid the ring sling type oes as baby is more horizontal in those so wouldn't really help. I'd go for one that keeps he quite upright. I love my Ergo but they are mnore horizontal in the newborn mode so if you want something for now I'd look into wraps like the hug-a-bub style(I think close baby is the same?)
As far as swings my babies hated them so I'm glad I never paid much for mine, get one second hand or borrow one to try first if you can. |

My reflux bub hated our sling - I returned it. Loved being upright in Ergo. I've worn a Close Carrier style one with another bub and it was comfy.

The Peanut Shell is a pouch sling, which I think is what you are referring to. It is easy and comfortable, and both my babes loved it until they grew too long for the cradle position. You must make sure you get the right size though.

Fisher Price Power plus swing - can plug it in so you save on batteries. Otherwise there is a Fisher swing that does either side to side swinging or back to front. The side to side swinging works well if baby likes the swing. Check ebay.
Ergo with Heart to Heart insert (required for babies under 4 months old), the heart insert helps them sit more upright. The ring sling you are talking about is one my friend used, Bubba Moe. I don't like them myself but its about comfort for me, I like the baby more *close*. |

When my bub had really bad reflux days the swing was a godsend as it was the only place he slept. Now the reflux has passed he hates it! A friend gave me one as I didn't have one for my first. Can you take him to a shop to sit him in one and see if he likes it, then source it second hand?
