My wife is two months pregnant and her friend has recommended acupuncture to help with her stress and back aches. There is a place names "The Pagoda Tree" across the street from us that offers this service. Does anyone here have any experience (good and bad) with this? Are there any risks that she may not be aware of?

Should I let my wife....
What do I tell her, I dont want to break her heart and just say know [sic]...... Your wife may respect you enough to value your opinion in whether to do acupuncture or not, but it's her body, she doesn't need your approval/permission. ETA: To actually answer question.... a quick google comes up with this http://www.babycenter.com/406_is-acupunctu...ancy_1246184.bc This post has been edited by Elleness: 18/04/2012, 02:44 PM |

Have you googled?
Acupuncture is quite common at all stages of pregnancy, although, not everyone is a believer. Maybe sit down with your wife and have a Discussion with her about it. Don't let this other person be an influence (either positive or negative) in your and your wife's decision making process. |

"Should I let my wife?" Are you for real? She is your wife, not your child, decisions should be jointly made. Most people cut the "obey" out of their marriage vows. You don't want to say no? If you don't start treating your wife like an equal you are going to have much bigger problems than deciding if accupuncture is safe. Also, the whole hating one of her friends for giving her stupid ideas makes you sound controlling and not very respectful of your wifes ability to think for herself. Your whole post makes you sound like my ex.......
From all I have read, accupuncture is safe in pregnancy and many people find it beneficial. |

It's your wife's body, her choice
And having seen acupuncturists at work, I think it can be very helpful during pregnancy |

I actually feel very sorry for both your wife and child given the fact you feel you have the power to 'let her do things' and say yes or no. You are very very lucky you are not my DH ....... The worrying part of your post had nothing to do with acupuncture but rather your controlling behaviour. It's not a good situation for a child to be born into at all. For what it's worth there is no evidence acupuncture presents any harm in this situation however this is a decision for your wife to make. I really only clicked on this because of the hilarious title.
I've had 3 different midwives tell me to get accupuncture over 2 pregnancies so I'd say it is considered safe. What isn't safe would be telling a pregnant chic that you won't let her do something with her own body. I've heard a lot of blood noses follow after doing something so risky. |
