Zephyr's Calm birthing - New mum advice
As soon as i layed down in bed to sleep, My labour (stage one) started at 11:15pm 14th of november, I had surges ranging from 6-4mins apart.. I thought nothing of them at first as they were very irregular(although i was 9 days "over due"), but i still put my calm breathing techiques to work(I had learnt in my calm birth classes), So I walked around the house till 6:30am and didnt wake anyone up so they could get some sleep instead, I then started feeling it in my posterior, by then the surges were 2-3mins apart and told my mum its definitly time to go!! So i grabbed my electrolyte icypole(highly recomended) out of the frezer and we flew down the highway.. only to find it was peak hour traffic!! D=
But We got the hospital in time and was taken straight to the labour room to be examined and found out i was allready 9-10cm dialated!! ( the walking and squating must of helped!) So i was walked to the birthing suite and was layed on the bed.. and was breathing through the surges.. I found laying down bad it worse so i paced around the room and then The lovely midwife said if i wanted to have a water birth, as it was free for me to use!!, So i got in the pool and Boy was it awsome it was huge!!!! I sat in there for a while breathing through each contraction(Mind you it did not hurt, i loved every second of it, I was thinking of what my body was telling me to realze if there was pain or not!) The lady who was registerd to do water births didnt get there in time so i had to get out as i was ready to birth this baby, i sat on the stool and poped my waters spontaniously and then stood up, leaned on the bath to birth him, after 9 mins of pushing i felt a burning sensation from my cervex opening up and next thing i know a lil body twisted out straight into my arms and on to my cheast, the cord was cut and i deliverd my placenta and got to sit back into the pool with my boy and bonded by feeding him. this was a No pain, drug free, tears free, stiching free birthing.. It was my dream birthing from what i had planned!! I cant imagine it anyother way.. I was very lucky to have such an easy experience.

And because my whole pregnancy, labour and birth was an absolute breeze, I named my son zephyr.. meaning gentle breeze to the west(I live in the west so it thought it fit well.. hahaha)
He was born 15th nov at 10:02, 51cm long, weighing exactly 4kgs!

Unfourtnuatly i was not able to keep up breast feeding after three weeks due to me lacking in breast tissue, he lost 500-600gs in three weeks. but he is a healthy lil boy and is the most easyest lil baby i have ever came across.

My advice to new mums with low risk pregnancy, Walk as far as you can handle every second day from week 20, take raspberry leaf tablets every day and take a hot relaxing bath every four days or so(its an amazing bonding time with baby), delay inducing till 42weeks, these will help your labour be very easy and have less of a chance to complications and the natural hormones to be able to do what its meant to do!
Been induced too early can really make it worse, a "due date" isnt always the correct "due date" according to your body. When been induced it only releases the hormone that contracts your uterus and doesnt release your "love" endorphines that open your cervix that then releases your Natural adreniline hormone, the adreniline kicks in when the head is about to emerge and give you extra energy to push and not to meantion the adreniline will help you survive the next few days with little sleep!try useing gravity to help you through labour and birth and not drugs, Drugs will block out what your body is trying to tell you. Think possitive, just think of what your body is doing and what is telling you insted of the pain.. Theres nothing wrong with pain relief but trust its extreamly rewarding when you dont resort to help! our bodys where made to be able to do this on our own!
Take it from a soon to be calm birth midwife/one time exp 18yr old mum.. =]
