Hi there
I hope I am in the right place here but have a question regarding the pill and conception etc...

Ok so I have been in this section for a little while as we had decided to go off the pill and TTC. As it hasnt happened the last couple of months we re-assessed and thought that considering we want to go overseas at the end of the year maybe we will wait a couple of months first and then try again as it would be late in the pregnancy travelling if we conceived now. So I thought I would go back on the pill until the timing works out well.
SO, this is my question...

I started the pill (white pills) halfway through AF, then i had taken 4 (yellow pills) including today and we DTD this morning!!! Im on day 12 of a 25-26 day cycle and just realised have only taken 4 yellow pills? Im sure I know the answer to this but my brains a blurr at the moment. How long exactly does it take to kick in?

This is not going to be a huge issue for us as we've discussed it and we can always change our dates of travelling if need be, but now im just curious.

Depends on your Pill pack. Most need at least 7 active pills before they are 'effective' some 14, others recommend the full cycle and recommend that you use other forms of contraception in the meantime.

So yes you could potentially fall PG.

I had some OPK's left over and thought I would test. The 2nd line came up dark but not as dark as the 1st line.

I figure that Im basically half way through my cycle so would usually be ovulating around now. So if Im on the pill and not ovulating would that mean I should not see a second line at all on a OPK?

And because I did see a 2nd line would I assume that the pill is not affective yet?

No, even on the pill you have some LH in your body and that's what the faint line on the OPK is saying. It's no indication of the pill working, or not working.

Only 4 days into Active Pills, having a short cycle and getting a 2nd OPK line which is dark (but not positive) I would say means you are probably about to ovulate and there is a chance sperm and egg could meet. Whether that results in a conception which is able to implant itself or whether in the meantime the Pill manages to change your uterus to a hostile environment to prevent implantation we do not know.

I would be doing HPTs in 2-3wks time though to double check.

ETA: What does the information with your Pill packet say on its effectiveness when starting? That should give you an idea. As has been said some pills take 7 active tables, some 14, some suggest you need to do a full cycle before being 'covered'.

lsolaBella Just read the leaflet and it says take extra precaution for the 1st 14 days.

I put this in another section too but thought Id put in here too.

If i did a few OPK's and it seems to be getting lighter, does that mean that i did ovulate?

here is a pic
the top one was from yesterday then I had some cramping last night then the next 2 were from today and obviously lighter today. Is it possible I O'd last night?

Yes it is possible that it is an indication of ovulation having happened. As I said just make sure you HPT in 2-3wks time (I would also personally stop taking the pill until I knew either way).
