I have a nearly 9 month old DD who I intend to breastfeed until 12 months. I currently breastfeed first then offer food (which she loves) about an hour later. When do I switch the order or don't I?

I've read that there's no need to switch if they're having 3 meals a day at 8, 12 and 5 or 5.20 otherwise it may affect the baby's sleep.

I just let her guide it. I gave one meal at 6 months, 2 meals at 7 months, 3 meals at 9 months, then introduced morning and afternoon tea about 11 months when I went back to work. I continue to breastfeed her on demand. Sometimes she breastfeeds right before a meal, sometimes after it, sometimes between.
For example I often get home about 6 pm and she is busting for a breastfeed, so I give it to her straight away and she has a massive feed (lovely way to reconnect after a long day at work). Then we have dinner about half an hour later, but she still usually eats like a horse. If you let them guide you should be right, they're pretty good at knowing what they need when. And that way you don't need to worry about schedules lol! |

Mine definitely got their breast milk before they ate their meals for at least the first year of life.

DS started solids before BM at around 7 months as he started refusing breastmilk until he had solids. The CHN recommended I do this.
He started solids at around 4 months under pediatrician advisement due to reflux. |

I always just fed to need and did baby led solids.
So they breastfed when they wanted and had a play with our food whenever we ate. Some time in their second year the concept of 3 meals a day became established and we continued to breastfeed as they wanted. |
