The Macedonian/Greek thing adds another dimension to the issue. It's a lot more than just refusing to attend a religious ceremony. How do your parents and your DP's parents feel about your relationship? I'm surprised OP, that you don't seem to understand the whole history between the Greeks and the Macedonians. It wasn't 100,000 years ago - the ost recent conflict is still on going with the actual fighting only subsiding 50 years ago.

I suggest the OP finds a bit more about the history of her family before yoou start making judgements in the behavior of your family.
