I'm currently approx 11 weeks and I have my first scan next week. But I have my first hospital appointment tomorrow and I am wondering if they will listen for a heartbeat using a doppler this early? Last time I didn't have a hospital appt until 16 weeks so I have no idea when they can first hear the heartbeat using a doppler.

No not usually in my experience. But every clinic is different.

With my last pregnancy I had an ob appointment at 11 weeks. He couldn't find the hb with a doppler. He said it wasn't unusual to not hear it before about 14 weeks. Freaked me out a bit but I had my 12 week scan the following week at my gp and all was well

I am so anxious at the moment as I've had next to no symptoms for weeks now and I'm petrified of what they will (or won't find).

I guess all I can do is cross everything!

The midwife team I have gone through in my last two pregnancies don't even try until after 16 weeks.

I think it can cause undue concern for parents if it's not found, which is normal in the early days.

I feel the same. It's such a waiting game! I was worried in my first trimester as I also had no symptoms and still do not. I had my 12 week scan and all was fine but now I'm waiting for my 19 week scan. I'm 17 1/2 weeks now but still feeling anxious as I haven't felt any movement yet. (which I know is normal).Good luck with your appointment. Even if they don't hear the heartbeat with a Doppler, they can still detect movement which is reasurring

The heart is smaller than a pea at 11 weeks it would be challenging to find the heartbeat at 11 weeks. The baby also moves though you cannot feel it plus the womb is still mostly hidden behind bladder/pelvic bone. I hired a fetal doppler I am not sure if that is what you are referring to but I did have difficulties on a few occasions trying to locate the heartbeat. That is a bit stressful. THe instructions say best is 12 weeks onwards and with early pregnancy best with full bladder. Even at 13 weeks my sonogrrapher says the heart is still smaller than a pea, so imagine how amazing it is to be able to hear it with the doppler. If you dont tml, dont stress cos you are still early.

My ob could detect a h/b at both my initial appointments of about 9/10 weeks via ultrasound and doppler. He scans at every appointment and makes sure things are going along nicely.
I know I am fortunate of hearing that h/b and everyone is different and I know not every ob is like mine and I do hope that they offer you the chance of hearing a h/b.
If not I would just request additional scans for peace of mind to see bub moving about in there.
I wish you good luck and I do hope you hear your much wanted little one's h/b fluttering about in there.
