We are going away tomorrow, so I'm madly cleaning the house. You know, floors, bathroom, kitchen, clean sheets and towels, all the washing done, dusting, outside swept etc.

I love coming home to a clean house, but it got me thinking, how many do this?

A few months ago, I fed some animals while the owners went away, and they gave me a key to get inside. I was gobsmacked by the mess! It looked like they had partied well into the night (and they might have!) infact the whole house was trashed. I couldn't understand why you would not at least have done the dishes?

Seems pretty lazy to me.

I also love coming home to a clean and welcoming house. Then I'll know that it hasn't been ransacked while we're away.

Yes, because I do not like coming home to an untidy house plus the unpacking.

A few years ago we went overseas. I had left the house clean and tidy. When we got home, the grass and weeds had taken over (it was Summer here) there was dust and cobwebs, an animal (I think a bird) had broken through the bathroom celing so there was dirt and stuff in the bath.
We were only away for three weeks.

I make sure the dishes and washing is done, otherwise the house would stink when you got back. But that's about it. Then again, I'm not world-famous for my housekeeping skills even when I'm home wink.gif

Yep.

I also change the sheets either the night before or the day we leave.

DH is the same as me & is fanatical about mowing the lawn & doing the gardening before we leave.

Even if we are only going for 3 nights - we still do this.

I'll do the dishes and make sure the dishwasher is empty but that is it. It's only going to get dust while I'm away and I've got someone coming over to feed the cat so it's just going to get dirty anyway

We have cleaners who come fortnightly whether we are away or not, so I don't clean. But I make sure the house is tidy & everything is put away in it's place before we go anywhere, including just for the day LOL. I hate mess.

I make sure the house is tidy and the mess put away. I put the dishwasher on, clean out bins, make sure the toilets are flushed ( DS1 is a shocker at not flushing). I clean the cat bowls and give it a general once over that I cant always get done whilst the cat is home.

But no i dont change sheets or mop floors like other PPs. I just like to know that its not a sh*t fight when I get home and unpack.
