As title suggests, how would you pronounce Ciara? My understanding is that it's an irish name - but I don't know how I'd pronounce it - perhaps See-ara? Or is it a hard 'chi' sound?

I see it as an Italian name and would pronounce it like tiara but with a C - so key-ara.

HTH!

It is pronounced Keira (as in Keira Knightly).

I worked with a Ciara. She said it was awful that nobody could ever pronounce her name. One time it was her birthday in her first week at a new job and the staff all sang "happy birthday dear......" and nobody knew how to say her name so there was dead awkward silence oomg2.gif

I know a Ciara who pronounces it the same as Keira (as in Kee-ra). She's Irish, so I guess that's the correct pronunciation.

ETA. Yes, like Keira Knightly. Thanks PP, a much better way of explaining it.

The girl I know called Ciara pronounces it Key-a-ra. I think it is a lovely name - very feminine.

I've known a couple of Ciara's over the years. One pronounced it Kee-ah-ra. The other pronounced it Keera.

I would wait to be told by the parent or child and then make a mental note of how to pronounce it.
