Hi,

I'm currently 17 weeks pg and not working (left my job in retail and don't want to go back to that) so have been considering doing a course to improve my employment prospects when I do want to look for work again. I have decided on Bookkeeping as that is something that I can (hopefully) do from home when bubs is small and out of home later on if I choose.

I have been looking at the Certificate IV Bookkeeping from the Bookkeeping Institute of Australia. http://www.biau.com.au/Bookkeeping_Certificate_IV.asp

Has anyone done this course or have any feedback about the BIA?

TIA biggrin.gif

I know nothing about BIA, but I'm also seriously considering a bookkeeping qualification. I was hoping to do a TAFE course, either OTEN or my local campus.
If you find out anything more, please do post.

Well I haven't had any feedback but I've gone ahead and enrolled anyway - I am doing it via Distance Education. I should get my course materials in the next couple of weeks I believe.

I'm looking forward to starting - I'm hoping that I can complete most of it before mid September so that if I need to take it slower after the baby is born I can.

I'd be keen to hear ahow you go with it, and what was involved with getting signed up and set up and costs, interested in using this to get some casual home work (have studied accounting at Uni but not enough and not recent enough for me to feel confident and up to date with it)

I am currently studying Cert 4 in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) through OTEN, started in March 2011, and have 4 subjects to go (whoo hoo).

I decided to study Bookeeping as next year we are having a sea change and need new skills, I have the basic skills just needed the theroy to back it up.

Good luck with your course.

Thanks Lynneghl - I am still waiting for my materials to arrive but they did say it could take 2 weeks. The 2 weeks isn't up until the end of this week but I sent an email today to check everything is ok. I'm impatient to start!

I enrolled online - your purchase the course and fill out the enrollment form which is also on their webside and then email it back to them. They then email you a letter of offer which you sign and again email back.

The course was $2995 (amount depends on how you pay - upfront or on a plan) which I am paying in 2 lots. I've paid the first half and will pay the second half in a couple of weeks. My first lot of materials arrived last week and I have started this week, they will send the second lot of materials out once I have made the second payment.

So far so good - I'm going to do the first assessment this week original.gif

You may not have to do the full course if you have already done accounting though - I think there was a fast-track option for people with accounting qualifications.

Hi

I am currently studying the Cert IV in bookkeeping, I am finding it quite difficult to find time to do this course (have 3 kids and work full time). It would be great to have someone to bounce ideas and to keep me motivated. I have been a bookkeeper for 20 years and this course is very demanding.
