I am a bit over 7 months pregnant and was just getting baby boys clothes washed and ready and it got me thinking, what if the tech got it wrong? Does this ever happen?

I've heard of it happening twice, both times it was the other way round though. Couples were told bub was a girl (and both went ahead & painted EVERYTHING pink), and they had boys.

At my scans, the techs have never said 100%, son #4 was 60% girl, pregnancy #5 the tech said 'what does that look like to you? I assumed penis, as that was what I thought would be the most obvious as I couldn't really tell anything, and he said "no, it looks like a labia to me" and he was right.

Yes I didnt think it was likely for a boy to be predicted as a girl. You either see a penis or you dont.

I got told DS was a girl at 19 week scan. I swore I saw a penis though & had convinced myself he was a boy so didn't believe it. Told me OB at my next appt & he did a quick scan to look for me & found an obvious penis.

I think it would be easier to miss seeing a penis & assume a girl, but not so much the other way around =)

Wow! Did the ultrasound tech point out any boy bits on the scan? We were shown what clearly looks like a clover leaf between two legs on the scan so convinced we're having a boy but now maybe we shouldn't be so sure! Oh well, only 9 more weeks to find out original.gif

I found out with DD1 & DS, and they were right both times.

I found out last week what #4 is, and I'm pretty confident & certain they got it right. I had 2 techs check, and they both said 99% certain, which to me is like 100% (since they can't tell you 100%).

When we went in there at 19weeks we were told girl. As he was completing the scan he went back to the genital area & said 'hang on, there's a willy'.

Sure enough a few months later out came Willy biggrin.gif
