I had one with my first. Needed vacuum too. Very sore for a few weeks after.

2nd one came out in 2 pushes and I may have torn a bit? Maybe a stitch or 2, I really can't remember, and healing was much quicker and less painful.

This except I had a high forceps delivery with the first. Second was a very rapid pushing stage - 1 push and he flew out. He had his hand up, and I tore but it healed much quicker and I had much less ongoing pain.

Had one with dd1 but was a forcep birth
Ds came out back to back with his hand at his head was a bugger to push out but no epis, tearing or anything, if only I didn't need an op to remove the placenta it would have been perfect!

No. I had one with the first (vacuum) and no episiotomy/tearing with natural birth for the second (and only in labour around 3 hours).

Unfortunately I had one with each of my girls.

DD1 was quite stuck so needed the ventouse and episiotomy. The doctors all commented on how big her head was and no wonder I needed help getting her out!

DD2 went in to distress and they wanted her out quickly. I had really hoped I wouldn't have needed one again but it was more important for her as she was not a well baby once born.

DD3 - we went private with her and one of the first things I said was I didn't want an episiotomy unless absolutely necessary but don't even think about giving me one without pain relief this time! It was so painful feeling the cutting with DD2. Unfortunately I also ended up needing one again and they did give a lot of local this time but still felt most of it sad.gif She also needed out quickly due to placental abruption.

I had an episiotomy (that I was really happy with) with DD, and am wondering what the likelihood of needing one again with bubba #2.

DD was super stuck, pushing for 3 hours, needed a forceps turn and failed vaccuum attempts and they were talking ceasar, but then the episiotomy worked a treat and healed really well afterwards too, so I'm happy to have one again. I'm actually a bit scared NOT to have one this time!

Did you have one with the first? Did you have to have one with the second? What was the reason and the outcome?

Thanks in advance!

OMG you had my DD1's birth! what you wrote was exactly my labour & Delivery only we still required forceps to get her out.

DD2 i didn't even tear! A small graze and that was all. Don't be scared, you'll be fine

I tore but DS came out with his fist up near his temple. ohmy.gif

No tearing at all with my second. OB was massaging the area as she was crowning too.

I had an episiotomy for DD1, but did not have one for DD2, though I did have awful tearing and the recovery was much longer and more painful.
