I just have to say this...

Recently, there have been a plethora of new adoptions...and most of them have been rescues. I've been noticing people posting pics of their new dogs or cats...and it usually comes with the "he/she was a rescue"...

So I just want to say a huge THANK YOU! I've dedicated 5 years of my life so far to taking in unwanted animals...and I couldn't do it without people to accept those animals into their lives. All too often it seems like I am fighting a lesson in futility, with people just buying a puppy in a pet store on the spur of the moment. But finally, it seems people are LISTENING. They are giving a second chance to a pound dog or cat and saving a life. They're taking in a rescue dog or cat and opening up a space for another animal to step in there - again, saving a life. There are still people that either don't think or don't care. So we need to keep educating, but it finally feels like my educating has been worth it!

So thank you, to those of you who have adopted a rescue. I hope you all have many years of happiness with your furry family members.

*hug* I have a lot of respect for the work you do, Ker. I don't think I could do it, or not very often anyway. I am good at adopting FROM rescue but I think being the rescue and especially dealing with people giving their pets up would break my heart.

Also I would end up with a Scary House O' Pets because I get attached which would keep me from saving more.

Grue is sitting on my butt right now (I'm lying in bed with my laptop) and she's just the best. She's made my husband a champion for keeping cats inside, and she's never ever had any of the things people tell me they wouldn't get a rescue because of: temperment issues. She's a bit silly and sometimes she doesn't do what she knows I am telling her to, but I suspect that has more to do with being a cat than being a rescue cat. I don't think she knows she's not worth thousands of dollars.

I'm with La di dah on this! I admire your work immensely, but am such a sucker for animals, I couldn't do it myself without becoming the lady with 1000 cats and dogs. And its so great seeing so many rescues being adopted. As always, happy to offer help with training and stuff (and how is Wizard?). Its the least I can do.

Speaking of your rescues, I washed Anja last weekend. I swear she thought she was getting one long giant pat and cuddle, with a bit of water and soap thrown in.

She's such a lovely dog. Must take some pics for you.

Although I adopted my first 2 cats from the RSPCA over 11 years ago it has only been recently I started coming in here a lot more for help thanks to a little furball (also known as Tommy) that is currently flying through the air chasing various toy mice! It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since I brought him home from my daughter's school and he has made himselft right at home. I wasn't even sure if we'd be able to keep him due to my older cats and it would've broken my heart (and my 3 girls) to give him up but thankfully things are going pretty well. I figured by at least desexing him and giving him all the right vaccinations/worming/flea treatments that we were doing the right thing even if we couldn't have kept him but I don't think I'd be cut out for rescuing often as they'd all end up living with me lol.

DD and I had to go to the pet store last week to get Missy a flea treatment. I generally go to another store that doesnt sell animals ( I too get so saddened by the selling of animals in stores ) but they were closed.

Anyways, a lady came in and spent $900 on 2 cross breed puppies. I said to her, very politely, did she know about the RSPCA just up the road that have many dogs that are in need of rescue? With a smile she said she did then just left, with the 2 shop bought pups.

I hope I wasnt out of line by asking her but I cringed at the thought of her spending $900 on shop puppies whereas there are som many rescue dogs in need of homes.

Ker, I have a question for you. I sometimes have to walk past a Pets Paradise (seeing the little animals in there breaks my heart and I worry about their welfare. I wish the sale of animals could be banned from these shops.)

There is, however, a new sign on the window saying something like "We do not support puppy farms". Can you enlighten me on what this development means and if we should be at all encouraged by this?

People like that sh*t me. They know and JUST DON'T CARE. And don't think you were out of line mentioning it. I do the same thing. And make terrible comments about Puppy Farm dogs VERY loudly outside of Pets Parasite stores

It means that since the public have gotten wise to puppy farms, and people have been harassing PP stores (including yours truly ), they have gotten wise and started saying "oh no, not US". They lie, basically. One of the anti-puppy mill sites I visit regularly got hold of some receipts, issued by ACA/Banksia Park Puppies (well known puppy mill) to several pet stores. There are a few Pets Parasite stores on them.

And hey, I suck at the idea of actually REHOMING the pets at times. Miss I-swallowed-a-football Tinkerbell, who was always staying, put me well over my self imposed cat limit (which WAS 4), when she presented me with 5 kittens. One went to my Nan, one to my sister and one to Mrs Doyle. Some nutty lady wanted Ariel - as an outside cat, so I cracked the sh*ts and now...

If it weren't for EB and then in turn DOL, I wouldn't have Bandit... hrmz that means I have YOU guys to blame for him heheheh

I love my ginger boys and now fel guilty when I buy from registered responsibly breeder! But I tell myself it's ok because I have 1 rescue for each purebred (actually we have 4 rescues and 3 pures!)

I will always have rescues in my home now

Thanks for the additional information, Ker. I feared it was too good to be true. Keep up the good work, and hopefully Oscar's Law will be passed one day.
