Hi everyone waves.gif

Absolutely no idea where to post this, so i'll just post it in here!

I gave up coca cola and softdrinks 3 weeks ago (on recommendation of an OBGYN for ladies TTC). I have been drinking herbal teas and water instead. I'm not a fan of the herbal teas (the flavour compared to a can of coke is well... not really all that comparable LOL!).

I have tried a couple, but I have noticed that one in particular drastically changes the way I feel. It is a Moroccan blend with cinnamon, chicory root, rosehip , liquorice & spearmint. About 15-20 minutes after I drink a cup I get really really hot! My face feels like it is bright red and on fire and I feel like I've risen my body temperature by 10 degrees! And this is every time I drink this tea!

Any other tea I've tried doesn't do this. Jasmine green for instance has no effect on me. Does anyone know what or which ingredient is causing these sudden hot flashes?! Is it bad!?

The Moroccan is probably the nicest of the flavours to drink, but I don't like the sudden rise in temperature I get from drinking it!

Also one more question... do you have to be careful with what tea you drink when TTC? I picked up a jar of tea in the health food store the other day because I thought it sounded good, but I noticed it contained Vitex!!

Rosehip and spearmint are safe teas - you can drink them throughout pregnancy so during TTC is also ok. Licorice is a known abortive so I would abstain from it. Not sure about the other two ingredients.

There are heaps of herbal teas you're not supposed to drink while pregnant, and only a few more are 'allowed' while TTC. It's easier to list the safe to drink in pregnancy ones, i.e. spearmint/peppermint, rosehip, ginger and I think that's it (?). Chamomile and calendula are ok while TTC - they are thought to regulate cycles better so should be stopped the moment you fall pregnant.

Thanks heaps Stoked!!

I had no idea about the licorice! WOW! Will throw away the packet of liquorice pieces I have in the cupboard as well!!

I may give the spearmint a go next, I've never been a fan of chamomile. The jasmine green is growing on me, although I still think brewing up a cup of grass out of the garden would be just as enjoyable roll2.gif

ETA: sorry, I misread your post so my info was incorrect - no idea when TTC.

LOL, that's what I thought when I tried a couple.

I found a really nice replacement for coca cola is the mount franklin sparkling water with lemon. I was addicted to coca cola and hadn't had one for about 2mths. You don't realise it but your taste buds change. I caved and had some yesterday and couldn't drink it, it was really horrible. I can't believe I used to think coca cola tasted nice.

I love sparkling water too!! I order it in restaurants all the time and it costs me more than a glass of wine!! Ridiculous!

I would love it if my taste buds change! At the moment i'm still getting that urge at around midday, and I can still imagine what it tastes like!! So it would be great if next time I have some I don't like it!!

If you don't like teas, do as the PP suggested and have a cold glass of flavoured water.

What is it about the soft drinks you are trying to avoid? The fact it is carbonated? The sugar? The caffeine?

If you're trying to wean yourself off the commercial stuff, maybe mix your own lemon syrup/lemonade which although still full of sugar, is an easy way to train your tastebuds. Have it icy cold and I find it quite refreshing.

There's a host of stuff you are supposed to avoid while pregnant and by extension, while ttc. I've seen chammomile on the no go list yet many people drink it without a problem. There's also the element of how much you are consuming. Choose a reputable source and stick with it. I followed Francesca Naish's books and suggestions.

D. All of the above!!
The caffeine and all the nasty other things that are in soft drinks. I drink a lot of water but especially when it's cold I like something else to drink. Normally I would turn to coffee or normal tea, but since hearing from an OBGYN I've been trying to give it all up. Except for my morning latte!!
