I was listening to my music collection today and thought, hey some of these songs sound like they have been written by stalkers or very obsessive people. Examples:

QUOTE
Every step you take (Police)

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you

O can't you see
You belong to me…

QUOTE
Ticket to Ride (The Beatles)

She said that living with me
Was bringing her down yeah.
She would never be free
When I was around.

She's got a ticket to ri-hide,
She's got a ticket to ri-hi-hide,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.

I don't know why she ridin' so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.

And one of my favourites:

QUOTE
Somebody that I used to know (Gotye)

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[Kimbra:]
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
Part of me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

When does a song about love become simply a song that could have been written by an obsessive fan or stalker?

Any other stalker (or obsessive fan) song suggestions?

No suggestions but I always find it odd when people choose 'every step you take' as a wedding song

Ohhh, I have always refered to the song "Someone like you" by Adelle as 'THE STALKER SONG"

QUOTE
'I hoped you'd see my face and That you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over'

Lips of an angel

Terrible song and mawkish lyrics, about a pair of tossers.

You Can't Do That by The Beatles is totally overbearing. I can't even listen to it anymore, it annoys me that much.

I’ve got somethin’ to say that might cause you pain
If I catch you talkin' to that boy again
I’m gonna let you down
And leave you flat
Because I told you before
oh, You can’t do that

Well it’s the second time I’ve caught you talkin' to him
Do I have to tell you one more time, I think it’s a sin
I think I'll let you down (let you down)
And leave you flat (gonna let you down and leave you flat)
Because I told you before
oh, You can’t do that

Everybody's green
Cuz I'm the one who won your love
But if they'd seeeen
You talking that way, They'd laugh in my face

So Please listen to me if you wanna stay mine
I can’t help my feelings I go out of my mind
I'm gonna let you down (let you down)
And leave you flat (gonna let you down and leave you flat).
Because I told you before,
oh You can’t do that!

I Want You by Elvis Costello. Great song, but very stalkerish:

Oh my baby baby I love you more than I can tell
I don't think I can live without you
And I know that I never will
Oh my baby baby I want you so it scares me to death
I can't say anymore than "I love you"
Everything else is a waste of breath
I want you
You've had your fun you don't get well no more
I want you
Your fingernails go dragging down the wall
Be careful darling you might fall
I want you
I woke up and one of us was crying
I want you
You said "Young man I do believe you're dying"
I want you
If you need a second opinion as you seem to do these days
I want you
You can look in my eyes and you can count the ways
I want you
Did you mean to tell me but seem to forget
I want you
Since when were you so generous and inarticulate
I want you
It's the stupid details that my heart is breaking for
It's the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for
it's knowing that he knows you now after only guessing
I want you
It's the thought of him undressing you or you undressing

Etc. Not going to post the whole song, but you get the general idea . .

I am a huge BEatles, fan, have been since I was 5 years old. But some of their songs...

Run for your life

"I'd rather see you dead little girl
Thank to be with another man
You'd better keep your head little girl
Or you won't know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
HIde your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man, that's the end. LIttle girl

Well you know that I'm a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can't spend my whole life
trying just to make you toe the line

You better...

LEt this be a sermon
I mean everything I said
Lately I'm determined
and I'd rather see you dead

You better...

(Proud to say I typed this all from memory, lol...)

John Lennon has said that he hated this song. That makes me feel a little but better about it wink.gif

"On My Mind" by Powderfinger is definitely a stalker song.

"(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind"

Baby I've got you on my mind, honey you won't ever know
How much I need you by my side, promise you won't ever go
I won't take no from you this time
Baby I've got you on my mind

'Cause honey I've got to show (I won't wait for another day)
Just what I can do (My heart died when you loosed the chains)
Because I think I know (I won't wait for another day)
What you are going through (My heart died when you loosed the chains)
I hope you feel it the way I feel it, I hope you feel it the way I feel it too.

So if I had this all my way, honey you won't ever know
I'd be there through every night and day, promise you won't ever go
I won't hold back from you this time
Baby I've got you on my mind

Bon Jovi's "Always" is a stalker song and NOT a love song like some people believe. It was written for a film (but not used) and it IS about stalking an ex lover.
