Ok be honest who here uses a street directory?

Who uses a GPS?

If you use the GPS can you read a street directory or not?

FWIW I own a street directory only and have no problem reading it either.

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur.
I only have a street directory. It's a backup to the whereis.com-ing I do before I go on a trip to anywhere I haven't been previously

This is me too - I don't get these people who can't even set foot in their car to go on a trip without the GPS - what did you do before they were invented (and there are plently of people out there like this IME!).

I use street directory (I am very good at reading maps and have a good memory so I can look at the map and then drive to my destination).

I only use the GPS when driving Melb-Syd not for directions but as a good guide to timings to the next stop (so I can tell the kids correctly when they say "how long"). Sometimes we have changed a stop due to how long it would take to get to the next point of stopping and the kids being prematurely cranky in the car.

Same. I like my street directory. I get one every other year. I do use google maps online if I'm going somewhere that's outside of my directory but when planning a holiday, I use maps. When I last went on holidays my Mum was worried we'd get lost so gave us her GPS. The kids used it as a toy.

I have always used a directory - until I got a (smart)phone!
I don't think paper directories will be around for much longer ...

Because everyone else has one...
I have an old directory in the car for emergencies, but I generally whereis before I leave and print it off if I have to.

Our gps was invaluable when we drove to the Sunshine Coast from Melbourne, plus when we were driving around there (looking up addresses for shops etc).

They both have their uses. When I was a truck driver I wouldn't even consider using a gps because of bridges and needing approved roads, but in the car a gps is easy and gives you an eta. The mistakes they sometimes make though drive me nuts!

I own a street directory and can read it just fine. I also own a GPS, but only use it if I'm going somewhere I don't know, or if going a long distance (as PP said, it's good for timing). I do love it when I'm going somewhere new, as it shows me exactly where my turnoff is and I don't have to crawl along annoying everyone behind me looking for the street I want to go down. I usually check my routes on Google Maps before I leave home though. The GPS doesn't always pick the best way.
