I really want a knitted/crochet going home outfit/dress etc for my daughter but I can't find one that isn't going to cost me a fortune anywhere. Money is a little tight so I don't want to spend much but would like a keepsake to give to her when she starts to have children. Anyone have any idea where I can find one online?

I'd seek out your local branch of the CWA and ask there.
Otherwise weekend markets are a good place to look. Alternatively is there a wool shop in your town? Ask there. |

Another suggestion- call a couple of opshops, sometimes elderly ladies make them as a hobby and donate to opshops.

On facebook there is a group called "Buy and sell handmade seconds" You could ask in there. Also on the website "Ravelry" you could post in a group (not sure which one though??) and ask if anyone has a second hand one to sell.

We don't have any of those either but we have TWO IGA's (the 'big' one and the little one!!) a craft shop, weekend market and an active CWA! Hence the flavour of my post! Good luck... Check out etsy... |

Your local hospital may have a volunteer group which often sell crocheted things to fund raise. I bought a lovely matching cardigan, beanie and booties from ours for $20.
I'll also second etsy http://www.etsy.com/?ref=si_home |

You could try making something yourself. I made a quick hat for my DS just before I went into hospital, as well as the other going-home items I knitted.
It turned out that they were all too big so he never got to use them as a going-home outfit The problem with handmade things is, once you factor in the cost of the materials, let alone the time to make, it's getting pretty expensive - which is why it can be hard to find something nice at a reasonable price. However, if you have the time and a little bit of patience, knitting and crochet is pretty easy. Ravelry has lots of great, free patterns, and lots of help and tips for a beginner, if you want something simple. Maybe http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ribbed-baby-jacket? And you can get some nice, fun yarn from Lincraft, like http://lincraft.cart.net.au/cat/2080390.html. Of course, if you want something more traditional, like http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2241/225275...844917772_m.jpg, you're probably better off with the CWA/etsy. |
