Could I just say - please consider getting your daughter immunised against mumps at least as well?

My mum never immunised me and I had had mumps 2 years ago in my early 20s and it was well and truely the worst experience of my life. Its an awful disease and still around a lot. I don't even know where I caught it from, no-one I know had it.

No pharmaceutical company makes the measles vaccine separately to mumps and rubella, so you won't be able to find it anywhere. The rubella vaccine is the only one available separately, given as a booster primarily to teenage girls and women of childbearing age.

Here is a link to a decision aid for getting your child the MMR vaccine - it may help you:

Mumps and rubella are both serious diseases too, and receiving a vaccination against the three viruses simultaneously does not increase the risk of side effects. The MMR vaccine has far less risk of serious effects than catching any of the three diseases.

HTH.

AFAIK PP is right, they just don't make those separately anymore. I remember a French friend talking about a measles-only vaccine still being offered to them a few years ago, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case anymore. And I don't know how an Australian citizen would go about acquiring that, even if it was available there. And it would seem especially nonsensical if you were to consider travel there for that purpose - what with their measles outbreaks and all...

Hi,
This is a question that is best to ask to your health care provider. As such, I will be closing this thread.
