I'm on the fence with it.

Normally I would say no to using two derivatives of the same name but I think Evan and Jack are so different in sound, and Evan at least isn't a well known John derivative, that you might get away with it.

If it bothers you though, it's probably best to find something else.

How about Euan / Ewan instead? Sounds very similar to Evan and is a derivative of Eoghan / Eugene not John.

Mum to two boys!! :O
I would never have thought Evan was related to Jack. I think they sound great together.

I knew a Jason and Justin.

And a Melissa and Melinda!

I think they're fine - they may be derived from same name originally but that was long ago - they are quite different now.

I certainly wouldnt change Evan to Ewan if you prefer Evan, just to get a different original source name.

Tinkster, I think it's fine - Hannah, Jack & Evan sound good together! Most people wouldn't even think of it.

But if it's going to really bug you....

Evan is one of my all time favorite names -- love it! original.gif

Having said that, I would go for a different name. There are so many boys names from which to choose...name nerd that I am, I'd be picking from a different tree other than the "John" one.

Good luck with your decision!

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur.
Ewan > Evan

But I wouldn't have picked it as a John derivative.

Don't you think that'd be a bit mean for a boy tongue.gif
Thats currently our girl frontrunner, but we've always had issues with boys names. I'm not pushing dh too hard atm cos we'll find out the gender in a few weeks and only have one gender to argue over.

I don't like Ewan...
