It's not cool to use two derivatives of the same name right?
I'm considering boy names and evan is one of the rare names dh likes, but the fact that jack and evan are both derivatives of John kinda bothers me. So, oh name gurus what's the verdict? |

Personally I wouldn't, although Evan and Jack aren't as similar my colleague's sibset of Shane, Shaun and Jack

QUOTE fact that jack and evan are both derivatives of John definitely doesn't stand out to me as being derivatives. Use 'em |

I don't think the average person would make that connection. I think they go well together as sibling names.

I wouldn't probably but I am a huge nerd and sorta fixate on stuff like that. Even when they don't sound anything alike (Elizabeth and Isabel style, or Jacob and Hamish) it actually bugs me more than all matching initials which I know is a terrible EB sin.
I'm not gonna like point and laugh though and I doubt the average Joe (whether he has a brother Joel or not) will care. |

Nathan and Matthew have the same meaning and I know lots of family with these names as a sibset
Evan, Ian, Shaun, Jack, Ivan, etc - depends on the combo but Shane and Shaun are too close or Jack and Jake Evan/Ivan |

I don't see them as too close and I would've ended up using something similar without even realising! If Evan's the name you like, I say go with it

I would say the majority of people wouldn't notice. Seriously, apart from name nerds, the only names people might know about is their own or their kids.

I'm nowhere near a name nerd and it kinda bothers me, I guess that's why I asked.
