I'm going to a friend's birthday on Saturday evening, but still have no idea what to get her! Any suggestions? I'm thinking around $50.
Thanks for any ideas you may have! |

I got a fantastic book for my 40th - think it was called "Just 5 minutes" (don't have it with me sorry)
All my friends and family wrote in it on the night secretly and then handed it to me the next day.... It just asked a few pertinent questions from each person and the answers were funny, emotional and something I will treasure forever. |

I really like the sound of that SkyeMummy. The only other idea I can come up with is to take photos on the night and make a photo book for her - so her gift would be an IOU!

Really depends on how close you are to the person.
A photo book sounds great. If she is not organising/cooking etc for her own birthday, could you offer to take her children (if she has some) for a couple of hours and pay for her to have her hair and makeup done? Quite a few salons around here do this for about $50-60. Otherwise a mani/pedi? At 40, most people have most things they want/need, knick knacks etc, if she is not the type of person who does things for herself then the above in a voucher form could work, her some car wash vouchers (my aunty seriously LOVED someone buying her five carwash passes for the place just down from her house - came with a complimentary coffee and cake on each visit too!) Or a magazine subscription attached to a packet of nice coffee, or hot chocolate with a note that at 40 she deserves to take some time out now and again? Good Luck OP! |

For my aunty's 50th I looked everywhere, she's a prolific reader so I tried the bookshop. I initially didn't know what to get but as I was going out the door there was a 'gifts' section where I found a book called 'Memories' (I think). It's a journal with something like 100 questions the person can answer such as, 'what's your best memory from your childhood' etc. It was perfect for her as she likes to scribble and has always kept a diary - if your friend is similar a gift like this might suit her.
