I only ask because right now DS is in a bad way with his eczema, flaring up. You should see his eyes, very swollen and flakey and red raw.

He is on daily antihistamines and uses moo goo (the eczema one) and dermaid.

DS has had eczema all his life but seems to be getting worse. He has it quite bad behind the knees but that looks like his normal eczema. In this photo I'm worried about the red ring, it isn't normal. Well when I say it isn't normal it's been like that a while. It can flare up and go down in a matter of days (or even a day) so today I took a photo because we are waiting on hearing back for an appointment to the specialist allergist. His eyes are getting worse and swelling up and going down lately.

I know he is allergic to grass, pollens, dustmites and garden moulds.

Have your kids ever had anything like a red ring like that? DS is 12

TIA

That looks like a rash myy dd had. Took her to the allergist at RCH and she has been diagnosed as anaphylactic to milk. Since she stopped having any milk protein her skin is clear and beautiful.
Hers came out in rings behind her legs as well.
Have you tried the cortisone creams?
I have had eczema all my life as well and unfortunately dairy is the one thing to set me off too. I am sure you already know that dairy is something that can make him react though so I am not much help. Hope that appointment comes up quickly.
Poor kid, it makes me want to itch.

Good luck.

Does he do a lot of stuff that keeps his elbows bent? Looks a bit like a form of Fungal infection. Can't say without seeing it up close. Have you tried a Tinea powder on it? Only saying as it is on a skin fold.
Hope it clears soon.

My eczema is pretty much always in rings, to the untrained eye it kind of looks like ring-worm. It's just eczema though. As a kid, behind my knees and in my elbows were the main spots I got it and back then it may have had a fungal component I suppose. It was never diagnosed that way though! I also get it around my eyes.

I'm allergic to all the things your boy is allergic to, but also citrus fruits, oats, nuts, dairy and probably a few other things that don't spring to mind right now. Oranges seem to be particularly associated with elbow/knee eczema, the other things are more associated with eczema on my thighs and torso! Not sure why that is. Anyway, has he been eating anything different lately?

If you're worried that it could be fungal, there's a resolve anti-fungal that contains 1% hydrocortisone cream and kinda kills two birds with one stone. Otherwise I find hemp body butter from the body shop the best thing ever for my eczema (other than avoiding everything I'm allergic to, which I never manange to do).

Have you tried a dermatologist as well as an allergist?
My legs were bad like that as s kid, but I never saw an allergist(weren't around or the GP didn't think of it, who knows?) only a dermatologist.

One of my twins gets it behind his knees and in his elbows, it feels like sandpaper to touch & if he's been scratching at it it looks like your sons pics. If he doesn't scratch it & he's not hot & sweaty you can't really see it. I use cortisone cream on his when it's bugging him, but he's always got it to some degree.

Thanks for all the ideas. Might try an anti fungal - won't hurt I suppose lol Although I find the moo goo eczema good for anti fungal.

Biggest difference is that he is actually outside playing on the grass with the kids from next door. DS never goes outside to play so it's refreshing to see him play 'normally'. Fresh air outside is probably what his mind and body needs right now but not his skin!!!

His skin is really dry right now as well, his lips are cracking. The cold dry southerly winds are probably the reason for that! If I could get him to drink more water it would be good for him but right from an infant he has been the worst drinker sad.gif

I have a ring shape like that on my hand, I also have a smaller one in between two fingers. The same as your DS it can clear up a bit in a day or two of cortisone - Dermaid. However as soon as my hands are wet it returns.

I have only had it since having my son. I haven't change my diet at all and the only difference is I am taking Motilium.
I think mine may have started as stress related.

I feel for him as mine gets itchy as. It must hurt him even more in the creases of his elbows sad.gif
