Quick call Whine-1-1 & dispatch the Whambulance immediately
My first thoughts are his skin is over heating and making the eczema worse - or it could be fungal - and the heat and moisture is affecting it.

What type of bedding does he use? Does he use a doona? I found that layers of cotton blankets worked better.

I would keep a food diary. It's possible he is having more of a type of food that he has always had - ie his actual diet may not have changed, but he may have had an increase in one type, so has gone over his tolerance level.

He might also need to change the antihistamines he is on.

Also, he might need to have cooler showers - because hot/warm showers might aggravate it.

My DD has had a red ring like that inside her elbows and on the back of her knees with her eczema. I usually use Hydrozole (which is anti-fungal) for a few days to get it back under control, as well as using the MooGoo eczema cream and the MSM cream. We should have shares in MooGoo, considering the amount of money I spend on their products!!

He has cotton sheets, has been having longer showers because he has been playing in the grass plus I've been telling him to wash his hair (due to pollen) so it could be the soaps (I've told him not to use soap, he isn't a smelling teen yet so no need for it).

I've started to change antihistamines when finishing a packet (ie every month), I was told to do this.

I'll start to look into the diet. He has obviously had a lot more chocolate than normal !

I'll take him to chemist tomorrow to get a fungal cream. I LOVE moo goo stuff but if I need to change for a while to get this under control then I'll do it !! The amount I spend at the chemist is amazing, we have a loyalty program where for every $100 spent you get a $10 gift certificate, I'm getting far too many gift certificates !!! once I got two at once! Oh and the chemist doesn't sell moo goo so it doesn't even include that stuff!! Yikes!

Thank you everyone for your ideas original.gif

My eczema is often in rings as well, particularly on my arms. I use Moogoo Eczema and Udder cream, but also require cortisone. I have had it my whole life. My lips are cracking badly atm too. I find the change in weather between hot to cold really aggravates my condition.

I use the Moogoo wash and also changed my shampoo to the Moogoo shampoo and it has made another big difference. The soap in normal shampoo was washing down my body and making eczema worse. Moogoo products reduced my Cortisone use from once (or more) a day to about once a week - even sometimes go a couple of weeks now.

I only use Moogoo on DS and he rarely gets eczema at all now (use the wash, shampoo and udder cream. Use eczema cream if a breakout).

I hope you find the right combo for your DS. Eczema sucks sad.gif

now I'm standing here, my heart so full I can't explain
I had psoriasis in rings, it was a type the dermatologist had rarely seen as it was a mix of dermatitis and psoriasis, I needed a special concoction with sulfur and some other stuff in it to get rid of it, nothing else worked, but after it clears up, moo goo keeps it away for longer.

My eczema always comes up in rings like that. I've currently got two circles of eczema on my left breast which are driving me absolutely nuts. So unbelievably itchy. I use QV intensive and steroid creams to help control - though they've definitely flared at the moment.

Barefoot - that's interesting. My dermatologist said mine looked atypical but still put it down to ezcema. I haven't been back to see him for ages because he's so uncomfortable examining me (yes it's on my breast, I can't help that!!) that I feel he rushes things a bit. They were going to do biopsies next. I may have to get a referral to another doctor as it's really bad at the moment and the steroid creams aren't helping.

I would suggest removing particular foods from his diet in a controlled manner, perhaps with the assistance of a dietician. My dd had eczema as she neared 12 months. Drs told me that was just the way it was. However I found her triggers and she is eczema free almost all the time. Sadly, this doesn't resolve it for everyone, but try some of the common food intolerances first. One of my daughters favorite fruits is watermelon but it is terrible for her skin....

DS woke me at 5.30am this morning with hives all over his legs and creeping up. I gave him a polaramine and he has crashed on the lounge fast asleep (8am).

Hydrozole is an anti fungal that also has hydrocortisone in it, try this twice a day for a couple of days, also use the moisturiser 3-4 times a day, if they are really worrying him you can try wet wraps which involves putting the creams on then wrapping with wet cotton bandages- you could just use this o'night. If it persists get a referral to a dermatologist- excema is their bread and butter!

Don't take out any foods from his diet, much more likely to be to an aero allegen (something like a grass, mould etc) if it is caused by an allergy at all.
