To continue with the wedding invite etiquette theme...
DH and I have received a wedding invite for a date when DH will be out of town. I love weddings and have no problem with attending events solo but... While I am friendly with the bride and groom, they are DH's long-standing friends, not mine. As much as I would like to go, I think it is only appropriate for me to go to the ceremony and not the reception. I figure a couple not turning up will be easier to replace than a single turning up. DH wants me to go to the reception as our family's representative, as he can't be there (he is very good friends with both of them) He is keen to call the bride and confim that this is ok but I don't want him to- she will hardly be able to say that I am uninvited as he is not coming, even if that's what she would prefer. If they were my primary friends, I would go but in these circumstances, I think I should give the reception a miss. Any thoughts on this? |

I would go because your Husband wants you to. I am sure the couple would understand and that it is often a positive gesture to the happy couple that your DH wanted to be there in person and sending his wife in his place to endorse the occasion.
I would have no problem with that and would make it my priority to make sure that you were taken care of. |

I see nothing wrong with you attending on your own, if you would like to go. We had a couple of people who came without their partner to our wedding (or didn't have a partner to bring), it's really not difficult to rearrange the seating a little.

I would go and have gone to events as one half of our couple for dh's good friends and family, as I am his wife and am their friend now (well for over 12 years) now too.

Hell yeah I would still go! Free booze do's are few and far between these days.
On a more serious note, as long it wasn't a wedding that involved travelling a long time to get there, I would still go. |

Thanks PPs. Seems like it is the norm for one half to attend. On that basis, I think I will attend. I was probably overthinking things a bit.
Plus I might end up on the singles table, which everyone knows is where the fun is at! |

I think it's one of those situations where you could tactfully get out of going to the reception if that's what you wanted, but you should definitely go if you are willing!
