Tonight (last night, written before bed in my journal) snuggling on the couch after baths, just before bed. DD#1 was watching a TV program. DD#2 in my lap. . .
DD#2- Boobies? Me – All gone, darling. There’s none left. They’re empty (she hasn’t asked for them all week, I haven’t offered… there’s milk there, I can hand-express, but she has to work hard to suck it out and get it flowing). DD#2 – Just try? M – OK. DD#2 – (Goes for one. Gives it a pump. Has a little suck.) All gone. Other side? M – Other side? DD#2 – OK. Try? (She tries the other side. Same deal.) All gone. (Holds her hands out empty.) M – All gone. DD#2 – OK. Bye boobies. (She gives them each a kiss and waves goodbye to them. Before pulling up and trying to clip my bra, and then pulling my shirt down.) Bye bye. She then happily went back to cuddling me. I think she’s done breastfeeding… It’s bitter sweet. She’s two-months shy of two-years-old (my goal). I’m very pleased we lasted this long without any effort (well, practically no effort, there were a couple of strikes but we worked through those). So naturally. I’m so impressed by how she is growing up too (if this had happened a few weeks ao, she’d have been beside herself crying). I’m a bit sad to think that I will never breastfeed a bub again. Just a little bit sad… I’m mostly glad the transition is going so smoothly… Not a little baby anymore! Just thought I'd share This post has been edited by aluminium: 11/04/2012, 09:22 AM |

That is so sweet. I am still breastfeeding DD2 who is 10 months, but thankfully like you my other two gave up of their own accord, I was sad too!
Thanks for sharing. |

That is truly beautiful. My DD is 22 months and shows no sign of giving up boobies, but I often wonder if this is the way it will happen - peacefully and with no tears. Thank you for sharing, it's warmed my heart!

Oh, that really is a lovely bittersweet moment you've described there.. got me all teary, I've finished breastfeeding my last baby. It is such a special time.
Congrats on your extended BFing. And so lovely that weaning has been gentle and easy on your little one. |

Thanks everyone. I had to share, you know? Tonight made me a little teary. Cuddles again but not even a mention of the boobies (been pretty much like it all week). It has been a gentle process though and I'm very glad. At one point I was worried it would be a battle to get her to wean but she did it all on her own - the only thing I did was stop offering and just let her lead. Amazing little thing, she is!
