Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice regarding CVS. As I'm now at 15 weeks anyway, I thought an amnio would be the better option for me as I already know what to expect. I've been booked in for next Tuesday morning, so thankfully I don't have to deal with much of a wait before, it's just the wait after!
The midwife I spoke to this morning said that they could still give me a CVS depending on the position of the placenta. My preference is for an amnio but we'll decide on the day and see where everything is lying before deciding either way.
Bec - I hope your call comes through soon! The waiting really does suck. Hang in there.

Hi again,
Just another two questions, as it looks like I may have to go in by myself, did anyone drive after their appointment or are you not supposed to? Secondly, how long did you have off after the procedure?
I'm taking a sick day on Tuesday but I work in a job that has a requirement for me to be on my feet for a few hours a day and was planning to go back in on the Wednesday. Now I'm not sure if that's such a good idea. I dimly recall from last time I freaked out about an amniotic fluid leak at work the day afterwards (turned out to be nothing really) and ended up in the Emergency department for 5 hours.

Pretty sure my info sheet on the day said it was ok to drive - but I didn't anyway. I went in alone, but organised a ride home. I pretty much lay down for the rest of that day, and then avoided lifting and anything too strenuous for the next few days. I'd think about taking the wednesday off if you can, but after that you'd be right IMO. Good luck.

Hello Ladies, update from my end my FISH came back and they are all clear...... i dont think it will sink in till i speak to the doctor as he got called off to an emergency and left me a message, but i have been able to relax......Frankly after so many weeks of not knowing its still surreal.......
Bec234 i would call them everyday and keep asking, i had to do it all day today and eventually i think they got sick of me and i got and answer...... Good luck hun.....
Libertine.....hard decision and one only you can make , i can only speak from personal point of view. i had another ultrasound no bloods though and even though there were no soft markers i still did the amnio to have a total peace of mind...... but in the end only you can decide whats best for you .......Good luck hun

Hi everyone,
I'm new at EB, but wanted to join to post in this group.
I'm 33. I have two children and, after two miscarriages, am now pregnant with my third child. My 12 week scan today showed a nuchal translucency measurement of 4mm. There was a nasal bone present. I had blood taken today for the combined assessment, but the result won't be back for about a week. My next doctor's appointment isn't until May 8.
I'm trying not to freak out too much, but not being very successful.

Hi ladies, have read this topic with interest but too fragile to have posted myself. I am really thinking of those of you who are still waiting to hear back on your results Anna_in_Canberra, MelodyNelson, Bec234 - wishing and praying all the best for you...
myli2lsnowflake - I'm so glad to hear you received the all clear.. what an indescribable relief...
I'm 30, currently 16 weeks pregnant - coming into this thread after the fact, as a couple of weeks ago had initial 12 week scan and nuchal, received 1:14 chance for DS and other defects.. to say that my husband and I were shocked is an understatement. It was just such a traumatic, harrowing experience and gave me great perspective on how fragile and precious these babies are. Long story short, was rushed in for a CVS same day and after the longest 24 hours of my life received the FISH results which were all clear. last Friday we received the full culture results and again confirmed all clear. I was relieved of course but almost broken from the shock of it, I think I was just really naive and didn't expect this at all so the shock has stayed with me.
I'm anxious now about the miscarriage risk from CVS. I had it done at melbourne womens ultrasound by a very experienced Dr, so I know I was in good hands, but no one can tell me how long the risk of miscarriage is there - I believe highest in 24-48 hours to follow. I'm being completely irrational now, but am gripped with fear that the baby was damaged/I miscarried and had no symptoms... Unlikely but not impossible, and since 1:14 seems unlikely but not impossible, but crazy mind is now taking me to places it shouldn't.
Sad because I was so positive and relaxed about this pregnancy for the first 3 months and now gripped with anxiety. I have an OB appointment on Thursday and am scared he will scan and tell me my baby has no heartbeat ...
Sorry for the vent, I hope I'm not being insensitive when so many of you are anxiously waiting for the news that all is well - I am praying for you all, and don't take your situation lightly - I was there a few days ago myself...
Any advice or feedback you have for me, perhaps even a smack across the head to snap me out of it! - would be really appreciated.

Miss Lilly - Great news that it all came back clear! Sorry to hear you are still very anxious.. I am pretty sure miscarriage risk is only for the next couple of days after the test? If you are feeling really anxious and not coping very well can you maybe see about a chemist to hire a doppler to hear bubbas heart beat or move your appointment sooner just for peace of mind... Our heads are horrible with running through all the bad things that can happen so big hugs to you! I hope you get some peace soon!

Nelso - thanks . I'm going to talk to my boss about it on Monday. I really don't want to be lugging anything around/standing for long periods for a few days afterwards. Anne In Canberra - sorry you're joining us. Hope you are coping okay in the meantime. Miss Lily - I have the same odds for T21 . Glad to hear your CVS went well and that you're all clear. I think the miscarriage risk is most apparent in the first couple of days after the procedure; after a week you should be able to return to normal. I agree with Bec234 though, if you're feeling concerned, definitely see a chemist or doctor for a doppler. When are you booked in for your morphology scan?

Hello everyone, worried Dad here Intellectually, I'm sure there is no need to worry, but emotionally I cannot help myself. My wife and I have had ultrasounds done at 10, 14 and 18 weeks. Every time, the doctor confirmed that everything looked perfect, heart sounded perfect and at the last U/S he spent extra time showing us the developing organs and body features and once again confirmed everything looked normal. After the last U/S, my wife had her blood drawn for the down syndrome screening test. Yesterday, we got a call from the nurse telling us that we have a 1/365 chance of our daughter having DS. I know that it is lower than the cut off to have more testing done and many things can cause these results to change, but shouldn't the fact that the doctor saw nothing wrong on the U/S make the risk even lower? I mean the 1/365 result was only from the blood test and nothing else. We haven't even spoken to our doctor about it yet and have an appointment in 5 days. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance!
