QUOTE (Bec234 @ 14/04/2012, 01:20 PM) *
So i had my amnio done yesterday.. feeling a bit fragile now but all seems to have gone ok.
They told me 2-3 weeks for results!?? Is that normal for it to take so long.. i am sure i was told 2-10 days when we were talking about getting the amnio done.. sad.gif

From my understanding so called Fish results could be give as soon as 2 days later with the full set ready in 2 weeks. Maybe give them a call on monday and see if they would have the Fish ones to give you some peace of mind. All the best for the results

Thanks Ladies.

My age was a factor too as I am 36 so my background risk was already 1:209.

Really appreciate the replies, it's been a lot to take in. It doesnt help that I am am huge catastophisier so hearing from others and getting some perspective really helps.

Thanks again.

Hi All,

I have some sad news. We lost our fight on Friday after finding out the results to our Amnio. I am totally devastated and feel empty. The hospital have been very supportive and thankfully did not make me go through a labour. Our baby was too beauiful for this world.

I wish you all the very bestx

I am really sorry to be joining you here, but I am very pleased to have found you.

Abstermummy I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

I am 36 (with 34yr old embryos - IVF), my bloods were fine but the bub had a 9.2mm nuchal fold at the 12 wks scan. A nasal bone was present. My risk factors was 1:7 for DS, 1:6 for Edwards (18) and 1:2 for Patau (13). The counseller delivered the results, and I don't think I have ever heard anything more devastating. I was so confident that the scan was going to be normal that I went on my own.

I was lucky that I didn't have to wait, I was able to have the CVS within the hour of getting the initial results.

Amazingly both the FISH and Micro array tests have come back completely normal. However I still have the problem of the 9.2mm fold.

The Dr has told us that we have a 50/50 chance of having a healthy bub, with significant potential for cystic hygroma and heart defects. We have a scan booked for 15wks to check if the nuchal fold has decreased (I joke that the bub needs a serious neck diet - we need it to reduce to below 3) and take a look at the heart. I am currently 13kws.

I keep trying to focus that we still have some hope, not much, but at least some. But the waiting is torture.

Abstermummy I am devastated for your loss. Please take care of yourself, and I am glad you weren't forced to go through harrowing labour. hugs xx

Libertine & Billymum - sorry about your test results, hope we can help you on this journey and everything works out just fine for all of us.

Bec 234 - did you get the FISH results in the end or decide to wait for the full results?

I have been in bed for a week with a nasty sinus infection and only now beginning to function. I have my amnio booked in for 8 May, and am feeling a bit more positive about things now, not worrying about it till I have to. Decided to just go through the motions and I keep reminding myself that there is a 129 in 130 chance that all is good, which are good odds. Still the amnio can't come fast enough! I have asked for FISH results and have an app with my OB next week to discuss my blood results especially the lowish Papp-A (though I know at 0.6 it isn't as low as some of you other ladies, but still lower than my first one which was 0.8 and I ended up getting pre-eclampsia).

also getting the second trimester bloods done at the end of next week so we will see if that will change my risk. For some reason i am not scared about the amnio, as that will give us a definitive result in a short timebut what if the bloods increase my risk further? I will then still have a week's wait before the amnio, having kittens lol.

Hi Bentkitty - thanks for your support.

The waiting is the worst bit, but like you I have just had to adopt the attitude that there is nothing I can do to change the inevitable, the best I can do is try to stay as calm as possible and just wait, wait, wait until the next scan.

Very few people knew we were pregnant, and ever since we found out there may be a problem I have been worried about telling anyone (fear of judgement I guess). But I have found that talking through the issues with those who do know is making it a little easier.
