3yo QLD kid - can he go to kindy?, Or is he too young? Help !!

Hoping someone can clarify something for me ... DS1 has not been in any kind of care but I'm looking to start sending him to daycare / kindy this year but I'm confused about the age requirements for kindergarten ... He turned 3 in February this year - is he old enough to go to kindy yet? Or can he only go to daycare? If he is too young for kindy, when can he actually go? Will he have to wait until the beginning of next year (when he is 4?) or can he go mid year? I'm so new to this - it's all a bit confusing !!

Yes, he can start kindy now. Depends where you want to send him though, some start from 3, some from 4. I have my DS at a Montessori - he started in Feb and isn't 3 until later this month. Just look for kindys in your area and see when they start. You might have to look around for somewhere that will have places available now.

Oh, I was hoping that someone would say 'yes'. Thanks *jen88* I have no problem sending him to regular daycare but I wanted to at least find one that had both options so that he didn't have to change after a short time if he wasn't able to attend kindy. I looked at the govt website and it was a bit confusing. Other than that, I only looked up the C&K website so far so I guess I'll have to look a little deeper at my options ... I'm on the southside of Brisbane (Carindale area) if anyone else has any suggestions on who will accept 3yo kindy kids?

He sure can! My DS went to daycare as I wanted him to start in January of the year he turned three, and the Kindy wouldn't accept him until he was three. He went there for a year and then started Pre-prep at a school. Most of the other kids in his class had been through the Kindy program the year before, starting in January once they'd all turned three. ETA: The C&K programs are great. My son's daycare was a C&K and we loved it. He could have stayed there for pre-prep the following year, except that we decided to send him to pre-prep at the school where he'd be doing prep (for ease of transition etc). If your child is 4 by June 30 in the year they start kindy, they can attend a preprep program. Otherwise you need to look for a good daycare with a kindy program. I think he can attend next year. The kids in my DDs class are all turning 4, till July when they start turning 5. I second C&K - they have a great curriculum.
