Where have you been to use the cheap train fares?

And what did you do when you got there?

It applies to ferries too. Trip on Sydney Harbour? A cheap day out.

We just get the train into the city. Only a 30minute trip (we live in the north west) but still fun.

A trip we want to do is to catch the train up to Brooklyn and get off and have fish and chips and a play at the park nearby. We live on the Northern line so it is a matter of just jumping on the country/newcastle train at our local station.

Also we would like to catch the train out to Richmond one day. Hop off, have a walk around, a play in the local park, lunch etc Google map the suburb and you will see the local parks/shops etc and how far to walk from the station. That is on our to do list too.

Cockatoo Island. Train / Ferry & I think also bus just for the hell of it. Explored the Island, had a picnic lunch. There was an art exhibition on at the time which was awesome.

We've done a few others too ... usually we train or bus into the city and catch a ferry somewhere.

One Sunday we drove to the zoo and spent the morning there, then DH drove home with DD so she could have her nap, and DS and I caught the ferry across to Circular Quay, where we had ice cream, watched street performers and chased seagulls. Then caught the train to Central where we watched the trains for a little while before catching the train and a bus back home.

For a little boy who loves trains and other forms of transport, it was a day made in heaven.

went to powerhouse museum.. they had some deal on at the time (which we didnt know about) so the day ended up super dooper cheap!!

Train to city then ferry to Manly for a walk around, maybe an icecream. We have zoopasses so the zoo is 'free' so often take the ferry to the zoo. Otherwise just train into town and wander around china town, markets, take the tram while down that end of town too as it is also included. I also have a little boy who likes trains/buses/trams etc for the heck of it so not hard to fill a day

If you live in south east Sydney I'd recommend the Illawarra line...stanwell park, a walk along the seacliff bridge at coalcliff, shops at thirroul. It's a very scenic train ride.

Further south, kiama or berry are on the same line. Good cafes, shops etc.

We did Family Funday Sunday heaps time eversince our fave place to park (the Picadilly) no longer has weekend rate!
Last weekend we only did a small trip to China Town for yum-cha (we caught train from north shore to central then light rail to China Town).
Other time we caught train and ferry to Watson Bay for fish and chips.
Someday we might go bit further like to Blue Mountains. Someday...lol

Just remember OP, it gets super crowded esp when the weather is perfect!

Yes especially the ferries, you need to hit that one bright and early on a nice day
