DS has a cmp allergy - not diagnosed until 19mths of silent reflux had tortured us all. The way I always soothed him during the night as a bub was a bottle of icy cold milk to soothe his burning throat. Now, he's almost 2.5 and we have a bad habit! After he brushes his teeth at night, he'll have a sippy cup full of oat milk before bed. He takes the cup to bed with him. Doesn't sip on it during the night, he finishes it, then I take it away & he goes to sleep. He wakes ~once during the night, requests another cup of milk. When he wakes in the morning, he has another cup of milk.

So the question here is, am I allowing untold damage to his teeth? Have any of you ever had this problem & broken the habit of milk during the night? I know I should be tougher on him, can't help being a softie though when I go into him during the night I just remember all the sleepless nights whilst he screamed for hours sad.gif

If he used a straw so the milk bypassed his teeth it might not be too bad. Or a few mouthfulls of water after the milk. It's very hard I think, to do everything right, some times you need to go with what's right for you and what's right for now.

I wanted to phase out DSs milk before bed which was fortunate at the same time his 'milk cup' died, so he had a glass of milk after dinner whilst still at the table before teeth brushing then if he wanted more he got water in a different sippy cup.

or can you slowly start watering it down if you do want to phase it out but keep the same routine?
1/2 Milk / 1/2 Water
1/3 Milk / 2/3 Water
1/4 Milk / 3/4 Water
