We are 20weeks along (half way... Yay) and we are struggling with girls names. My sister has always loved Ella, not on my list but I came across Aela the other day and dh actually likes it. It's Greek and means wirlwind and is pronounced aye-lah.. . Sister is not currently in a relationship, nor planning kids any time soon, her future partner may hate the name, she may have boys, this bump may be a boy and this post maybe irrelevant... But anyway, am I blatantly stealing her name if we used it??? Even if she used Ella they would have different surnames and potentially diff nn's too?! Thanks

I have also seen it spelt Ayla.
For what its worth I think it's different enough from Ella. I wouldn't mind if I was your sis but everyone is different.

I always loved the name Sarah. When I was pregnant with my daughter I mentioned to my MIL that I was planning on calling her Sarah. She then informed me that my husband's cousin had always planned on naming her daughter Sarah. Said cousin was pregnant at the time and hadn't learned the sex of her child so I decided to not risk it and gave my daughter another name.

She had two children in the end, both boys. As a result, I didn't ever get to use the name I always wanted for what in retrospect turned out to be a silly reason.

My sister named her daughter Asha (6yrs ago) & I had my daughter last year and was going to use the name Ayla which my sister had no problems with although they sound almost the same. Just ask your sister, Its not like you are wanting to use the exact name she loves.
Because my husband & I could not agree on names we had a plan to let our baby choose her own name - Elena (my husbands choice) which means bright light (daytime birth) or Ayla which means moonlight (night time birth). She was born during the day so Elena (Leni) it is! So my worries about Ayla & Asha being so similar was all for nothing!

I'd use it. She isn't even in a relationship. I know the names I had decided I would call my children changed greatly. They have changed from child to child actually. When she does get a partner he may hate the name or she may never have a girl and then you will be disappointed. I regret naming DS2 what I did and it is a horrible feeling don't make the same mistake. First in best dress.

My cousin was pregnant just after me and we both liked the same name for a girl. I knew I was having a girl she didn't know. I was planning to se the name but 2 days before DD was born I heard another name I loved and we used that. My cousin ended up having a girl and used the name we both liked. We would both have been ok about it either way
