We are about to embark in our first IVF cycle. I've read heaps of stories about keeping positive but don't expect it to work first time. I really want to believe its gonna work. Am I naive to think we will be one of the lucky couples?
Does anyone have any 1st time success stories? Any tips?

I am thinking, therefore I exist.
Yes it can. My DD is a first time success. Dont know what we did so no tips sorry.

Having said that DS took 7 cycles (mix of FET and IVF) and 10 embroys were used. It was a bit of a shock when it took that long after DD. But I do know that DS was quick compared to alot of others.

Try to look at IVF as a treatment plan. Alot of "illness" take a course of treatment to work and one cycle may not be a course long enough for you but who know it might be.

Good luck

My DS was a first-time IVF success.

However, we had done a year of fertility treatments, including 5 x IUIs, clomid and a laparoscopy.

I think it can be a matter of luck, like winning lotto.

However, what type of infertility you have and your age contribute to how many lotto tickets you have in the draw.

Your FS could give you his/her estimate of your odds per cycle, but it's still not that helpful. If they tell you each cycle has a 30% chance of success, you could still do 4 or 5 cycles and not get lucky, or you could hit the jackpot first go.

I found, through my IUI cycles, that having low expectations helped. I did not get excited, and tried not to be too enthusiastic.

I regarded it as a long journey, and psychologically prepared myself to keep doing IVF until the end of the year, (or June, or whatever timeframe/budget point). At that point we were going to take a break, have a holiday and re-evaluate. Luckily, we didn't get to that point.

I hope you have lots of luck on your first cycle.

My DH and I had unexplained infertility. We sought the help of a FS after about a year of unsuccessfully TCC. We were one of the lucky ones and got pregnant on the first cycle. We had been prepared for a BFN and even thought about cancelling half way (because we were only able to get three eggs and thought that it was very much a numbers game), but of course hoped that it would work first time.

It does happen, but I think it's important to go in there with the full understanding that it probably will not happen first go. I don't really have any tips for success. I think it's very much to do with luck. Good luck OP!

Every single person I know in real life who has done or are doing IVF get it first go. I have done 2 fresh & 2 frozen and nothing and they wonder why I get upset and won't see them when they are gloating and full of it about how wonderful they are that IVF worked first go, so yes it can happen 1st go

Hey Hoping original.gif
Yes, we were lucky enough to have it happen first go despite being positive it would never happen that way.
We did have a hard few days post collection though, after just 3 of 15 eggs fertilized - showing up a new problem that mean we'll need it for future children too. We had one little embie that was ahead from the start & was early blast come Day 5.
I hope our luck is with you original.gif

It is always possible to have success on your first go. But it is not likely. The first cycle is all about trial and error and working out the right dose of medication for your needs.

***preg mentioned***

I had two previous pregnancies and it still took 6 cycles (3 stims and 3 FETs) to be successful.

We were first time lucky but I'm sorry I don't have any tips for you. We were amazed (and very much overjoyed) it worked the first time but DS2 was a completely different story (5th time).

The very best of luck to you and your husband
