Absolutely agree with Spotty. Having just finished my first stim cycle and hoping against all hope I'd be a lucky first timer, I was brought down to earth with a great thud when I had zero fertilisations! From now on, no more expectations. And "amazing journey" - crickey, that poster must have had a pretty diabolical life up til now! More like "amazing pain in the butt" - or in my case, pain in the upper thigh, which is where I do my jabbing ohmy.gif

Of course, an upside is that if I hang around long enough I may actually be able to figure out how people use the quote thingy to reference bits of previous posts roll2.gif

Thanks for that info about symptoms!

Hmmm yeah can't imagine describing IVF as an amazing journey....more like a very emotional, expensive, painful and inconvenient one. I have just done my first full cycle and I am hoping I am one of the lucky ones who gets a BFP first time as I am really not sure if I can handle another round!

Best of luck to everyone!

Hoping, I also meant to say that from memory you posted not so long ago about Syd clinic reccs.
If you ended up with Genea, they do 'quote' 3 cycles as average, although in the case of oldies like me, my FS pushed that out to 4-5.

As countrymel said, there are plenty of those who get lucky on the first strike - but given the average, you'll see that the long termers balance things out.

I hope you are one of the lucky ones !

Thanks everyone for coming in and giving support, hearing the good, the bad and the ugly is exactly what I was after.

I'm really nervous, no let me rephrase that, I'm paralysed by my fear of failure, I'm so desperate for it to succeed, I guess I'm setting myself up for failure thinking like that.

If it helps, I feel EXACTLY the same way as you...I find out on Friday if our first IVF attempt is successful or not and I am so scared I am just not sure if I want to take that phone call! I am so so desperate for it to work!

Best of luck to you original.gif

ETA - do you have any children already or are you TTC#1?

Every single person I know in real life who has done or are doing IVF get it first go. I have done 2 fresh & 2 frozen and nothing and they wonder why I get upset and won't see them when they are gloating and full of it about how wonderful they are that IVF worked first go, so yes it can happen 1st go

I'm sorry your friends are so insensitive sad.gif They, of all people, should know how difficult the TTC journey can be.

OP, I've known someone who has got a BFP after their first IVF (which came after six years of TTC and various other treatments). And I know people who needed two or three attempts.

I think it's fine to feel positive about it; it's not worth thinking 'woe is me, this will never work'. But I would still have a plan for if it doesn't work. Maybe you could write yourself a letter to read in that event. Or, better yet, have a plan to go away for a weekend or go to a day spa or something.

It's good to be hopeful, but prepare yourself for the possibility that it won't work first time. And that, if that's the case, you'll still get other cycles. And those other cycles will have the benefit of being based on what your FS has learned about this first cycle.

A friend of mine had had a massive car accident, so all organs were crushed, heaps of scar tissue, was never expected to get pregnant...

She fell pregnant first time with IVF, and although struggled for a fair while in between, went on to have 3 natural pregnancies.
