QUOTE (Swahili @ 07/04/2012, 05:08 PM) *
I don't care. I do find it a little odd and often wonder 'why?' when a very old thread has been resurrected. As for unspoken EB rules- what are they?

They are unspoken so I couldn't possibly tell you.

Topics that have been done before don't bother me. New members have different opinions and experiences.

Op, whats your topic?

Father Dougal for the Papacy!
So just because we have older children and have had our time discussing these hot topics, it is fair and reasonable for us to dictate that new parents on a forum should not debate them?

I disagree totally.

Didn't know that there was an unspoken EB rule about resurrecting old threads or about starting up new threads about old topics. Neither surprise me, or bother me, particularly given the massive influx of new members the last few years.

Actually thought this thread was going to be about the other unspoken rules. Bit peeved that my evening's entertainment has been snatched away by a misleading topic title. tongue.gif

Ask me about my cats
Start a new topic, for sure. There's nothing new left under the sun after all, so don't feel bad about it. This forum is growing all the time and you won't be the only one who hasn't read a previous thread about it.

Arghhhh, I can't stand the "This topic has been done to death" comment (almost as annoying as the 'grab the popcorn' comment)
If it is a topic you are sick of then don't respond and leave it to the newbies or those who rely on the pretty dodgy EB search function which will not reveal previous discussions on that topic.
It's not like any thread on EB is compulsory reading.

spending less time on EB and more time with a book

I cannot see why "done to death" topics cannot be redone.

For us older members sure we have seen it all before.

For a new member, they havnt so there is nothing wrong at all about a member posting what we have already seen.

Some may tell the new member to use the search function. But even tho the topic may apply to the new member, the circumstances within that topic will be unique to that member.

when i grow up i wanna be like me
I am happy for old threads to be resurrected or a topic to be done over and over again as you do get fresh ideas every time. The only ones that drive me bonkers and I stay far away from are the bloody breast vs bottle, cloth vs disposable rubbish and stuff like that, it always ends nasty and I want no part of it (why people can't just do what is best for them and accept that no one is right and no one should be judged is beyond me).
