My cat pees everywhere. Old news. He has done it all his life and I'm pretty sure its just habit and no underlying cause.
He has done his dash by peeing in my dryer. I cleaned it thoroughly, put a towel though to test it, and it smelt like cat pee. So I need to decided what to do. Now he mostly pees at night. At the moment he is confined to the garage at night, but this is where my laundry is as well and we have found cat pee in an old bin out there, on an old large tartan bag, on a large cain basket, in old boxes, under DH's gym equipment, EVERYWHERE. He does use his kitty litter as well, we have 2 kitty litters out there, they are cleaned every night before he is put to bed and yet he pees. Options: -make him a permanately outdoor cat. He will whinge and cry at the door and break my heart though. I could get him a kennel or something I don't know. -crate him at night. That way he can either pee in his litter or on his bedding. I thought I could set it up like the rspca ones, with the hammock suspended above kitty litter and food. He sends litter everywhere when he uses it though. I'm just not sure how to go about this in a cost effective way. Please help, I'm at my wits end. I'm heartbroken because I wanted a cat for years, DH finally let me, and now I am punished and DH says he wont let me pick a cat again! |

Is your cat desexed? If he's not he would be spraying his scent for female cats.
I think I would try some sort of locking up at night in a decent sized cage, before locking outside. Try googling for some information, I think I've read somewhere that cats don't like citrus smell so maybe some sort of citrus scent near the lounge room, gym equipment etc would stop him from heading over there. You could maybe get some kind of citrus airwick type thing to use. Good luck. |

Is your cat de-sexed? If yes and he still does this you could crate him or are you in a position to have a cat run put on to the side of your house where he can go day and night and pee in it till he can't pee no more

Yes he is desexed. We rent so a cat run is out of the option, not to mention we are on a budget, otherwise it would be a great idea! We have tried the citrus thing, he just finds new spots.
I think crating is the best option, I'm just not sure how to go about it in a cost effective way! DH was ready to strap two washing baskets together but I think we need something sturdy and decent as this will be a long term arrangement. I had a look in the pet shop the other day and crates where starting at $113 for a small one. |

Crate him. Get a big one so you have room for a covered litter box and a bed. I had to crate my cat after an operation. He hated it, but adapted. |

OP what state are you in ? I have a large crate (it's a dog crate). It was used for a few days. Happy to negotiate a low price with you (if you're interested.

At Bunnings they have (what i think are) chicken enclosures (portable) that you could use for a cat run, they aren't that small and price is around $300 upwards (yes i know you are on a budget - DH made a cat run for DD's cat out of scrap material). If we were not skint at the moment i would be getting one for DD's cat.
Also, have you considered putting him on anti-depressants? He could have a mental illness. I know it sounds nuts (lol) but the cat next door to us was going through a peeing stage and was very very anti social and he was put on meds and that stopped the peeing and he stopped attacking or hissing at me whenever i went near him. I would worry about the crating as he might do the crying/yowling thing that will drive you nuts. This post has been edited by katpaws: 07/04/2012, 12:29 PM |

We use clomicalm for Sid's spraying issues. It works but it is not a cheap solution.
