This is only my second month charting and I am having lots of issues with FF changing it's mind. The girls in my TTC group know about it, but I thought I would post out here and see if it has happened to anyone else!

Originally on CD13 FF said it suspected O for CD10, which seemed crazy! 2 days later it removed that. Then I got a +OPK early CD15, after getting a fairly dark one at the end of the day on CD14. Originally FF did nothing so I was expecting it to call O for CD17. I think it was around CD18-19 that it called O for CD15, then changed it to CD17 the next day, and then back to CD15 where it stayed until yesterday.

Yesterday morning I put my temp in (at 14DPO) and it changed my O day back to CD17 (changing me back to 12DPO), BUT this morning when I put my temp in it's changed it back AGAIN to CD15, putting me at 15DPO???

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I noticed that some of the dot points went clear a day or two ago, when they had been solid for the rest of my cycle. I enjoy taking my temp and seeing how FF is analyzing all the data, but this is getting just a little frustrating!

Would it just be because it's only my second month charting? Could the fact that I got sent the wrong thermometer and am only currently using one that only goes to .1 degrees be something to do with it?

Any insights would be fantastic original.gif

Using a thermometer with only .1 increments is not really a problem. You won't get the really precise fluctuations but if your temp goes from .31 to .37 it really isn't a significant enough change to signal O anyway - usually that is a .2 change minimum, or up to .4! So you will see it clearly with your thermometer.

As for ff changing its mind all the time I know it can get a bit frustrating in the beginning. My first month I got so frustrated I swore I would stop using it but in time you will see that it becomes quite predictable and you won't worry so much. The reason it tentatively calls O is due to it trying to spot the signs of O, and perhaps based on your temp it thought O might have been on CD10 (it gets to this based on temp rises over the next couple of days), but then your +OPK on CD15 (and possibly any drops in temp) told ff that CD10 was not O.

Some women can get more than one day of +OPKs so perhaps ff was waiting to see what your temps did for a couple of days before pinpointing O, which explains why it waited till CD18 to put the lines in.

The clear dots signal that something about that temperature are out of the ordinary. For example I used to take my temp at 6am everyday when TTC. If I happened to sleep in and take it at 7, or took it much earlier then I would get a clear dot. Similarly my temp range was always between something like 36.2 and 36.7 so if I got an extraordinarily low or high temp (other than O day) ff would use clear dots - usually I got it if I had slept with my mouth open and got a lower temp or worn warmer pjs than normal etc. I don't think they do anything other than help you when you are looking at your chart to see that something a little different happened that day.

This is a long reply sorry! I just wanted to set your mind at ease that your thermometer is fine, and you will soon settle into the rhythm of ff. It was a tremendous resource for me and I attribute falling pregnant easily to being able to work out my cycle so clearly. Keep it up and good luck original.gif

Thanks for the response purple_daisy smile1.gif Much appreciated!

I knew the clear dots meant FF wasn't sure about that days temperature, but I hadn't thought that it could do it because of the time the temp was taken! Since daylight savings has ended I have been taking my temp around 7am instead of 7:30-8am which is the days that FF has questioned the temperatures taken. Thanks for that explanation!

I have a new thermometer arriving on Tuesday so that will fix the issue of the .1 temps anyways!

I guess the main thing that has been frustrating me is that FF is still changing it's mind so late in my cycle. I sort of got it when it was changing it around O time, but to be changing it back and forth so much at the end is crazy! I've been going from AF due tomorrow, to being late!!

Thanks again for the response smile1.gif

I agree with the PP, too many open circle temps and not enough data from prevoius months to correctly determine O. Personally i think you O'd on CD17 probably very late in the night/early morning giving you a rise but not a significant rise, then the next days bringing up above the coverline. But like i said those open circle temps are not reliable.

I have noticed since daylight savings that my temps have been higher but i still continue to temp at 7am despite daylight savings changes. Your body only takes a few days to get back to normal.

Goodluck!

One more thing OP - the first month ff kept changing its mind right through my cycle which frustrated me as I assumed I would O around CD14 like textbooks suggested, turns out I actually O on CD20 hence ff was still changing its mind right up till about CD 25!! So all the late changes could mean O is just later in your cycle. I think in another month or two you will be able to look back at all your cycles and see the patterns that ff is looking for.

Yes I discovered all those open circle temps were from days prior to the end of daylight savings when I was taking my temp between 7:30-8am so hopefully I shouldn't have that problem this cycle. Perhaps I should have just been naughty and adjusted the times on the chart then it wouldn't have got so confused, then I could have started afresh this cycle.

I wish my body could get used to daylight savings that quickly! I've gone from going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 7:30-8am to going to bed at 9:30pm and waking up at 6am! And i'm not sleeping at all well now, i'm awake every hour! I don't know why it's affecting me so much, but I think it has something to do with the fact that I don't have to get up for work any more so I'm not set to an alarm clock like I used to be.
