*may be spoilers*
I have just gotten into this series and finished season 1 last night and I have to get this out. Why did they have to kill off Karl and Ned Stark |

I like to think they killed off Ned because there just isn't a comparable "gaspworthy" moment that I can recall in recent tv.
DH and I sat in a heavy silence for a good 30 seconds after that episode until it was broken by a not so silent..... "Well f*** me" And yes, I know it is an adaptation of a book, but I didn't read until the season 1 withdrawal kicked in, and I honestly think the tv show captured the moment of his demise better than the book. As for Khal, that's simply a device to kick the story along. |

As for Khal, that's simply a device to kick the story along. I think both the deaths are plot movers but for different reasons. I hadn't read the book but was expecting Ned to lose his head. I kept hoping that he wouldn't but in my heart of hearts I knew it was going to happen |

They killed Ned Stark because it's in Sean Bean's contract that he be killed off in every TV show/movie.
Ok that's really not true but there are very few shows he doesn't end up dead in |

GRR Martin is pretty um well profligate with the killing. It's not worth getting attached to any characters.
LOL at the Jon Snow post though. |
