I know I'm in the wrong area but I was hoping to get the extra traffic.

DD 6 yrs has suffered from a rash around her mouth for at least 3 years. It ebbs and flows in severity and rarely gives her any pain or itchyness.

We have seen 4 different doctors about this with one diagnosing cold sores (Zovirax and other cold sore creams made it worse) and the others suggested topical dermatitis or "a reaction to something".

We have cut out food that tend to make it go redder and use betnovate daily but it never seems to fully go away.

Fresh tomato make it so bad her lips crack, oranges, tomato sauce and pineapple seem to irritate it so none of these things are on her menu.

Hope my photo works! Today is a bad rash day, she has eaten her usual wheeties for breakfast, apple for a snack, ham and cheese toasted sambo, hand full of red rock deli chips and satay chicken for dinner. She has these foods often and tends not to get a reaction.
Has anyone got any suggestions or perhaps seen similar and had good results getting rid of it?

It looks like perioral dermatitis, but unlike other types of dermatitis, it gets worse with steroid creams. The treatment is oral antibiotics (topical do not work as well). You will need to see a GP (again!)

eczema? All of the foods you mention making it worse are foods I should avoid to minimise my eczema.

My 2.5 yr old gets that than it dries out and sorta goes flakey - I blame his dummy though so I'm not sure. He has sensitive skin and always has rashes and irritations. Sorry not much help though

Off to the GP to get a referral to a dermatologist I think! Looked up perioral dermatitis and it looks right, poor kid! I've possibly been making it worse!

It does go dry/flaky and then light pink until it flares up again like the above picture.

Soy allergy? The same happens to me and that is what I have been advised to cut out. It is in cereal, bread, dressings, everything really.

Tetracycline is usually used for perioral dermatitis but it CAN'T be used in children, just a heads up! It causes teeth discoloration.

I get that exact same rash and as I also have eczema was using steroid cream, which made it worse. Mine is perioral dermatitis and I have a cream now. It still comes back, often when I'm stressed but it goes quickly enough with the cream. I went to two GPs a dermatologist before I got the right diagnosis and have since found one GP who recognize it correctly.

Alexandral- that's another possibility, she was a chcky baby (projectile) and we were advised to try soy formula..... Her first bottle came uP so fast it travelled over a meter! Needless to say after third bottle did the same thing we went back to cows milk reflux formula.

She can also tell if I buy different bread, possibly the one she likes best has less soy???? I'll check that our too.
