I sterilise my bottles etc in a microwave steriliser. They're all damp when they come out and just won't air dry for some reason. I've tried it all - that I know of!

I'm pretty sure drying them with something (paper towel etc) will un-sterilise them, and have thought about putting them together wet but am not sure this is good either.

What should I do?

Thanks!

I used to just put mine together and straight into the fridge. Never had a problem with them.

Did you put them away wet or did they dry easily? Mine just won't dry themselves

I put the boiled water in them straight away, and leave them on the bench with the caps on at room temperature.

I usually do 4 at a time, and then pop the formula in when baby wakes for a feed. This way I am not fumbling around during the night with the kettle etc and then the bottle is at room temperature (not from fridge) so takes less time to warm up.

I do the same if going out. If the next feed is a while away 1 - 3 hours), I fill with the boiled HOT water and pop into an insulated bag. Then I put the powdered formula in one of those dispenser things, and pour into bottle when needed. The bottle is always at the perfect temperature by the time baby is due for next feed and I dont have to worry about heating the bottle out in public.

Hope that makes sense....

I'm using them for expressed breast milk not formula, so usually don't put anything in them right away - they get put away empty.

I got told by nurses in the Canberra hospital that you don't need to worry so much about sterilising for breast milk because the milk isn't sterile. So I probably wouldn't stress to much about leaving them wet if you are going to use them soon.

My bottles are usually damp when they come out of my microwave sterliser but I just put the lid on and put them straight in the fridge till I need them. They always smell ok when I go to use them but they are never in the fridge for more than a day or two.

My understanding is that you don't need to sterilise bottles for breast-fed (and EBM-fed) babies because they're getting so many antibodies and good stuff, that they are nowhere near as susceptible to infections as FF babies. Might be worth checking out the BF area here, lots of helpful ladies there original.gif
